I would check out a shelter. They have lots of different dogs and pure-breds as well, and you can fill out a request form so when your breed comes in they will call you. Adopting saves a life and only costs about $80, this includes the neutering or spaying, so it's a very good deal. And you'll feel good for saving your dogs life.

You can buy a lot of purebred dogs for ~300-400 dollars. I would not recommend this. There are a lot of breeders out there that are not responsible and are just trying to make money. Research the breed. Figure out common problems (hips, eyes, heart....) and ask the breeder about them. A reputable breeder will have an answer...usually proof of the testing the ***** and sire went through before breeding. This kind of reputable breeding costs money and the pups will be more expensive. Don't be surprised if you spend over $800 for a purebred pup.

Mixed breed pups typically don't have as many health problems. It might be better to go this route.

A dog costs a lot of money. The initial amount you pay the breeder is just a drop in the bucket....especially if there are large vet bills for a problem purebred. Just make sure you can afford all the bills. Before I got my pup I called a local vet and asked for a list of services the dog would need the first year and how much everything would cost. I just wanted to be prepared and not be surprised later.

where are you buying it from??

Pet stores ALWAYS charge too much for low quality pets (after all they are a PROFIT MAKING BUSINESS). They will lie and tell you ANYTHING to get a sale... NEVER buy from a pet store.. no matter how cute it is...NEVER!!!

SPCA, Humane Society, non-profit rescues.. offer the BEST value for your $$ and will help you in future if you have problems or questions...

Breeder - there are several types of breeders - some good (if they have shown the parents to prove they are worth breeding) some not so good.. and breed just for the sake of it...

NEVER NEVER pay a cent for a pup/dog that hasnt been Vaccinated and seen by a vet.

smaller dogs often sell for $300-$500 or more if from good breeder...
bigger dogs (becuase of less demand) sell for FREE - $200.. or more if from good breeder...

some people breed "designer" dogs..cross bred mutts with fancy names.. these people just about always over charge.. STAY AWAY from them!!!!
if either parent were good quality they would be breeding purebreds.. not mutts..

You don't give enuf information for anyone to really answer your question here.

If your dog is coming from a reputable breeder, you can expect to pay a good amount for a well bred, healthy puppy. But the pet shops will put high price tags on their pups as well, and those come from puppy mills and horrible conditions.

it depends on the dog. u need to be a little more specific

EDIT: breed is a big factor here. if u tell us a breed we will be able to help. some breeds, bulldogs for example r really expensive because they r hard to breed. but breeds such as labs r going to be less expensive because they r a very common breed. the quality also is a big factor. pet quality will not be as expensive as show quality. show quality r the best of the best. so it depends on the breed and the quality of the dog

it depends on the dog and what breed...
I have a Yorkie and he is a purebred Yorkie...
If the dog's mom or dad was in shows and the parent was famous then the dog will cost a lot...

It depends on the dog. A yorkie for example, is expensive, but a chiuauha on the other hand isn't as expensive. What kind of dog are you looking for. Please Adopt and save a life.

It depends on several factors. Purebred or mixed breed? If purebred what breed? Pet or Show quality?

It depends on a lot of factors: breed, age, (sometimes gender), show/pet/breeding quality, etc.
