Do Scientologists agree or disagree with Tom Cruise's portrayal of the Scientology teachings? He causes a lot of negativity and questioning of the religion. Do you wish he would leave the religion alone and not make it a topic to be ridiculed?

True story. When I was about 12 I checked out a very interesting book from the library. I had read about halfway through this science fiction tale before I realized that the author, L Ron Hubbard was actually purporting these things to be true and something to be believed in and followed as a religion! The library had it placed in the science fiction section.
I wonder though, why it is that Hollywood types seem so drawn to this religion? Is it because they deal so much in unreality that this seems plausible to them?

Have you ever actually READ OT-3, or any other Scientology related writings that they haven't been able to sue offline? They believe a lot of ridiculous things, why on earth shouldn't they be ridiculed? That's not Tom Cruise's fault, that's the fault of the failed science-fiction author who founded the 'church'.

Just because the IRS considers them to be a religion doesn't mean that they're magically shielded from criticism. Go on, ask any Scientologist what the term 'Fair Game' means, or what happened to Lisa Macpherson.

ADDENDUM: Google.com and about 5 seconds would have solved this for you, but here's some links anyway:

His portrayals are fine. Its how they are interpreted by scientology haters that make it seem bad. Trying to hide all scientology references would be worse.

Come on. Make a real comparison. Such as, he jumped on a couch in obvious joy declaring his love of Kate. If he had said he was a christian then they would be proud of his obvious open rapture.

People dont really comment on what he says or does. They say a sentence then use it as an excuse to pile on lots of other stuff they read. Just look at the posts here.

His statements would all go over fine if made by Gibson, or someone giving a science source. You cant blame him for how people treat it.

He ought to be a little more... delicate about it. He's been quoted as saying "if anyone doesn't like Scientology, then f**k them. Really, just f**k them". He also went on national television and trashed all over a fellow movie star's choice to take medication for her post-partum depression. Oh, and he's building a bunker/bomb shelter in case of alien attack.

Yeah, if I were a Scientologist, I'd be pissed.

Scientology is an interesting experiement and I think it brings up a strange point about organized religion. Tom Cruise is insane.

One time I talked to a Scientologist outside their church in Times Square, and when I brought up Tom Cruise he acted flustered and embarrassed. I don't think they like what he's doing.

What did happen to & Who is Lisa MacPherson?

Anyways, it's a way of life, it's not a religion, but it is a cult.
My mom was 1 for many years.
I cut my teeth on that Bull.
Some of my family members are still in it....sort of.

It will be ridiculed because it a bunch of garbage!!
I am on the Golden Rod of 1981!!!!!
Yeah!!!!
By their standards I am an "undesirable!"
Probably, also a suppressive person!
Thank God, my mom is OUT!!
She woke up!!!
She got a family friend in it;
Now she has all but disappeared.
My mom has apoligized to her;
even tho' no one has seen her in over 10 years!!!

It isn't a religion, it is a story written by a science fiction author who liked young boys. Alien ghost souls were not defrosted, found Neanderthals and possessed them.
Alice in wonderland is a lot more believable than scientology.
