Sorry, but cheap flea medication doesn't work, hence the cheapness. A with most things, you get what you pay for. In the long run, trying to get rid of fleas with cheap products or home remedies ends up costing you more money.
Sorry, but if lemon juice/garlic/dawn/whatever else might be suggested worked, there would be no need for proper flea treatments. Fleas must be the hardiest insect there is, stuff you find around the house is not going to touch them.
Frontline is not that expensive - you could buy online where it's cheapest, but be wary, because you often end up with stuff that isn't the real thing. I'd just phone around pet stores and find out who does it cheapest, and pick up a can of house spray too. Make sure you get the Frontline drops on the skin of your animal, not the fur, and he'll be protected against fleas for 2 months per pipette - which is more than can be said for any store-bought product.

A good flea shampoo. Or human shampoo that has Balsam in it. [Wella Balsam is but not sure if they make it anymore.] Shampoo the dog really well, rinse, then shampoo again and let it set for 5 - 10 minutes, then rinse, rinse, rinse. Make sure you start at the head around the eyes and ears, then go down. Otherwise you will chase the fleas into her ears and eyes. Just be careful not to get the shampoo into her eyes. You need to do something about the fleas in the house or she will get reinfected. Not sure what besides a bug bomb. To get rid of the fleas outside - our vet recommended this - get a cheap dishwasher detergent that has phosphorus in it and sprinkle all around the yard.
As far as the Frontline or any topical medicine. Where you put it on her neck she shouldn't be able to lick it off. The cheap stuff at Walmart does not work - it's just a waste of money. I'd check out drsfosterandsmith.com or any other online pet cataloge. You can get the Advantage or Frontline there alot cheaper than at the vet. Just make sure to go by her weight.

,You are going to have to kill the fleas and eggs on your Yorkie in your house and in your yard. It is not cheap! I am puppy-sitting and Nick brought fleas into our home. I now have to treat all 6 dogs, 5 cats and the house & yard. I did find a web site that has Frontline Plus cheaper than every place I have ever looked. It is www.VetShopOnLine.com. Even if you can only get a one month supply, that's better than nothing. Yorkies can become anemic from fleas! Dawn dish liquid will dry out her skin. I have heard Head and Shoulders works to kill fleas if you leave it on for about 10 minutes. You will need to wash all of her bedding with hot soapy water too. Vacuume your carpets well and toss out the bag when you are done. You can get flea killer carpet freshner at most discount department stores. Home Depot has stuff you can buy to put down on your yard. It looks like fertalizer, kills all kinds of insects but you have to put it down right before it rains or water your lawn.
Good Luck! I know what you are going through and my heart goes out to you.

You do NOT need a vet or vet tech for this question. I went to a dermatologist for months and when - I - figured out I had fleas, he had NO IDEA what to do!!!
So I have EXPERIENCE in the worst flea infestation you can get ... and it was on ME!
I agree that Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix are more expensive than your budget allows. If you can afford them later on, great. Meanwhile we need to fix your problem. The cost of what I do isn't too bad.
SUPPLIES TO PURCHASE:
4 packages of flea/tick foggers from Walmart.
1 small bottle Dawn Detergent. (inexpensive)
1 small bottle of Kennel Dip (? about $8)
1 flea comb (not very expensive)
1 bag Diazanon for the yard
The flea/tick fogger bombs are the biggest expense here, because you have to treat the house multiple times. p.s. CHEAP flea medication like flea collars does NOTHING! Get the good stuff or use Dawn and Kennel Dip !
FIRST: wash her GOOD with Dawn.
I wash my dogs all the time with Dawn cause it's so gentle. Soap her up good and foamy and keep it on her for a while. This should kill most all the fleas on her at the moment. I use a cup of water with a few drops of Dawn to drown fleas when I pull them off dogs.
Rinse her off really thoroughly.
SECOND:
Mix a small amount of Kennel Dip with a large amount of water and mark well as this is POISON. Wet her down well with Kennel Dip as directed on the bottle.
THIRD:
comb her THOROUGHLY with the flea comb. If you can't find a doggie flea comb, buy the RidX head lice comb for humans.. it comes in a package of 2 combs... I have one of these.
This will remove the dead bodies and the egg casings so you can SEE if there are any live fleas left. When you comb your dog, always have a bowl of water with Dawn beside you in case you find any live fleas that you need to drown.
FOURTH: BUG BOMB your home...
Why did I say to get 4 packs??? BECAUSE you have to bug bomb your home ONCE EVERY FOUR (4) DAYS and repeat this between 4 to 6 times. The foggers only kill live fleas. When the eggs you cannot see in your carpet hatch, there will be MORE fleas to kill. I found every 4 days for at least 4 times finally gets all the adult fleas, so I did my home 6 times cause 24 fleas jumping on me and all biting me at the same time almost put me into shock, and I wanted to be REALLY SURE I killed them ALL.
I did this plan and never had fleas again in my home. The dog was LONG GONE before I brought fleas in the house on me.
FIFTH (and final):
Treat your yard, especially where the dog goes. Sprinkle Diazanon on the grass, flower beds, everywhere there are plants. You'll kill fleas, ticks, and a number of other varmints you don't want in your yard as well. Do it again next spring!
This plan WILL WORK!
and it's not too horribly expensive...

i had this same problem a couple of years ago; there was a huge flea infestation in my area (the vet said she thought it might be because of surrounding hurricanes, somehow, because a lot of her patients/clients were having flea problems at the time). basically, the flea meds my dog was on just stopped working, entirely, and there were fleas EVERYWHERE. both my dog and i were completely covered in flea bites, it was a nightmare.
money was tight and we had to wait for a vet appointment, so i had to do something quick to alleviate the problem, in the meantime. i happened to have some skin so soft oil spray, by avon. that stuff is AMAZING! at first i was nervous that my dog would lick it (he did)... so i asked my grandmother (best housewife ever) if skin so soft was toxic, she told me it wasn't-- and my dog was fine, even after licking a considerable amount of the oil spray.
basically, you put that on you or your dog (all over- it's greasy, but it works), and the fleas will jump OFF of her/you as you apply it. AMAZING. you can get this stuff anywhere avon products are sold: online, some malls/flea markets (no pun intended) have avon kiosks....avon ladies around the neighborhood.
otherwise, bathe her in flea shampoo and get rid of the fleas in your house (flea shampoo only works for a very short amount of time if there are fleas still around). you can use a bug bomb (very effective), or flea powder, which is designed to be raked into the carpet with a broom (pain in the butt, but it works). you can get flea powder at home depot, for sure.
good luck!

make particular all the domicile windows, doorways are closed & set of a flea bomb (Walmart or domicile Depot) off in each and every room, as you're loading up all the pets on your automobile, to take to a Feed shop or anyplace you may have them dipped. stay out of the domicile as long as you may, for the bombs to do their element. The benefit Plus works good, on mine, so after the dipping, have the Vet to initiate them on the flea/tick prevention plan. you will could re-bomb the domicile , i might say, interior of each and every week; then after yet another 30 days. Fleas are undesirable this twelve months, too. in case you may supply any of the animals the yeast/garlic pills daily, this might artwork wonders for whichever ones takes them, regardless of the undeniable fact that it will take as much as a pair weeks for it to get into all the pores & then desires to obtain daily, for their structures would not look waiting to shop it. It would not may be the intense-fee pills/drugs, the two.

When our dogs had a bad infestation after we moved house I purchased a spray for the carpets that you spray on and leave for 20-30 minutes (good time for a walkies) then you hoover when you get back! the heat and vibration from the hoover encourages the eggs to hatch and then the spray kicks in - one application and all gone!

You should see if your vet has any flea shampoo and you should give him about 5 flea baths. If it doesn't get any better then maybe you should see the vet

For the house vaccum your carpet and salt it. You have to vaccum and salt often. Takes a couple of weeks. You have to keep doing it to get rid of the eggs too. Check out DIY House tips for exact instructions on salting the carpet.
