Jerusalem is where G-d chose to build the Temple. Israel is G-d's chosen land and Jerusalem is G-d's chosen city.

For Christians, it's where Jesus of Nazareth, their Lord and Savior, preached and was crucified, and where the Jewish temple was (Christians believe they are the continuation or completion of Judaism).

For Muslims it is where the Prophet Mohammed ascended into heaven with the angel Gabriel (where the Dome of the Rock is now). (Muslims believe they are the correction of Judaism and Christianity.)

While the Muslims believe it is the place where their prophet made a quick ascenscion, (he came back down) the Jews, since their formation as a nation, have viewed Israel as their promised land by God. Jerusalem is not only their political capital, but also their religious capital. Where the Dome of the Rock currently stands was once their Temple, which is the ONLY place where they can make sacrifices to attone for their sins. That is why the city holds such significance for the Jewish people.

Well, Jerusalem was the original holy city, where the temple of the Jews used to be until the Romans destroyed it. Given that Christianity and the Muslim faith both evolved fro Judaism, it would make sense that the city of Jerusalem would be holy to both.

Here is the tricky part for most people though; what is holier, the place or the faith?

For the Christians, they believe their lord Jesus Christ was crucified in that holy city

For the Jews it’s the city of their great king David & others of the old testament

For the Muslim it’s the city were their prophet Muhammad had a miraculous journey & ascended all the way to the 7th heaven from that holy city. Additionally, Muslims also revere Jesus, David, Marry, John, Zachariah, & other great people who lived in the holy land

To clarify, we Christians believe the Jews should be in charge of Jerusalem, we don't feel the need to compete with them for it as do the muslims.
