Unfortunately there's no quick fix that's safe to help you loosen up nowadays. Even cannabis which was once presumed harmless has been proven to be the cause of several cases of schizophrenia. Alcohol is fine in small doses, but when you start to depend on it to feel at ease in a situation your on the wrong road. The best thing you can do is to work on your self confidence, so that you're not so afraid of what other people think of you. Self help books can help, or maybe even consult your doctor.

Surround yourself with the people that make you the most comfortable and are out going. Second look at yourself in the mirror and say, "I am me. If you don't like it leave. You are the one missing out not me." When you believe that and are confident then go. The people that don't like the real you will go away and the ones that do will stay. You don't need the ones that leave.

Are you asking about your life in general, or your discomfort in social situations?

If it is the first, try practicing yoga and meditation.
