To become a surgeon, you first must obtain a MD. MD is a very stessful job. You have to work long hours and be on call. Reimbursement for MDs is declining greatly. The average primary care physician earns only about $150k.
To become a pharmacist, it takes only 6 years. You work on average 40 hours and are not on call.

OK in order to meet any of those goals (even your fathers) you have to start out with almost the same basic college courses, so just set your short term goals on your education, & don't argue with your father. Just let him say what he has to say, & quietly nod your head while you have your ipod plugged into your ear.
There are lot's of Doctors who later became Surgeons, & lot's of Surgeons who later became Doctors. Yes, I am sure there are also a few Surgeons, & Doctors who later became Pharmacists.
Here's a great example for you. I am a licenced pilot, & in order for me to keep my pilot licence valid, I must go for regular medical examinations to make sure I am medically fit to fly. My aviation medical examiner must be a pilot also to qualify as an approved aviation medical examiner. Well not only is he a pilot, but he is an airline captain. Plus he has a law degree. Talk about an over-achiever.
Most of us pilots can only dream about becomming an airline pilot, but add two other high level carreers into the mix? It boggles the mind!
Anyway, my point is, that you can become whatever you want.
Any one of the choices you listed in your question should be enough to make any normal father extremely proud of his daughter.
If your father can't be content with the idea that his daughter is pursuing her dream, then I guess there will be no pleasing him, so the only thing left to do is PLEASE YOURSELF!
Good Luck!

Last time I checked you had to be a doctor to be a surgeon. Do you mean an internist or a general practitioner rather than a specialist like a surgeon? Until you grow up enough to be able to communicate better than this, please don't do either. Your father is simply presenting a different point of view, have some respect.

Tell you father you will make this decision yourself and his nagging is just making your life difficult. Tell him if he doesn't stop you will put yourself through college and leave him out altogether.
