Would it be relativly easy to learn the oboe. I have played, violin for 8 years and clarinet for 3 years.

Oboe is slightly different and the reed is very different as it's two reeds together rather than one larger one.
When I was in band I wanted to switch to oboe (I have played clarinet for 14 years, violin for 3, guitar for 11, and piano for 8). They wouldn't let the clarinets switch, they let the saxophones and the bassoons because the keys are much more similar.
You seem to be well inclined with music as well so I'm sure you could learn pretty easily. I have a friend who plays every instrument (including oboe, violin and clarinet) and is very very talented (she was in the Cleveland Orchestra at 15). Good luck.

it wouldn't be impossible. the reed is smaller on an oboe than the clarinet, and the over body is smaller. you would have to get used to having a tighter embouchure and the keys are spread slightly differently. oboe and clarinet are in a different key too so you would have to get used to that also. as you already know (I'm assuming) any instrument that you intend to learn is gong to require a tremendous amount of practice, and with the oboe there's also the reed issue. if you do learn oboe, i would recommend that you get lessons from someone that will help you with reed making. also oboe is really difficult to keep in tune. if you don't have a tuner already, i suggest that you get one. if you're planing on buying an oboe make sure that you talk to an oboe person about it first. i like fox and Lorée oboes. full/ modified (with the "left "F" key") is a must.
