what's the best way to describe those close-minded people?

How about closed minded fundamental Bible fanatics? I find it sad that they are so eager about learning/studying the Bible..yet they don't know how to interpret it. You know something is wrong when God's word is allowed to mean thousands of different things.

However, if they followed the Church that Christ established for us, all of its teaching authority and tradition, they would really be wonderful Catholics.

Actually, I think we need some finer divisions.

Fundamentalists, better addressed as evangelicals, take Christianity seriously, i.e., they believe Jesus is actually the way, the truth, and the life. We know they are Christians by their fruits, including prolife and promarriage stands. However, most try to interpret the Bible without the context of other historical writings, and end up getting misinterpretations, e.g., on the sacraments of baptism and holy communion.

Mainstream Protestants usually don't take Christianity all that seriously. Thus, they may find no problem when mothers abort their prenatal children ("it's just a choice") or when people practice homosexual promiscuity ("it's loving"). They may even accept homosexuals as leaders in their post-Christian organizations.

Bible Puritans are so locked into simplistic ideologies that they show more interest in condemning other Christians than exploring evidence from the Bible, other early Christian writings, or history to learn the truth. They are fanatical, but surprisingly lackadaisical about Bible study, given their interpretive straitjacket that only Bible evidence counts.

Original Christians are the best interpreters of the Bible because they also read the Fathers of the Church, who were disciples of the disciples who walked with Jesus and asked him questions. They belong to the only Church Jesus started, with historical continuity to the original disciples and fidelity to Jesus' teachings. They have all seven sacraments and all the doctrines of orthodox Christianity, and they demonstrate authentic Christian views of abortion (homicide) and homosexuality (a very serious sexual sin). Original Christians may be found in the Catholic and Orthodox organizations today.

Strictly speaking, they can't be fundamentalists( a rigid adherence to fundamental or basic principles)
but fanatics(excessive zeal for and irrational attachment to a cause or position).Instead of Bible, the proper word should be Christian ie Christian fanatics.Having described them, what do we do with them?

A Bible fundamentalist is somebody who claims that their doctrines are based in undemanding terms on Scripture and who allegedly rejects any form of custom or non-Biblical prepare. it is likewise everyday as "Sola Scriptura," or via Scripture on my own. It sounds sturdy in theory, yet in truthfully prepare, it relatively is greater like "via *my* interpretation of Scripture on my own." and that's an completely diverse can of theological worms.

The least condescending way would be to simply call them "Christian fundamentalists." On the other hand, if you want to poke at them, you could call them "fundies." I used to enjoy poking at them (I'm a non-fundie Christian) but that game is getting old. And, after all, they ARE fellow Christians.

I'll accept either. I am fundamentally fanatical about reading, understanding, and sharing the Bible.
