Funny, I corrected an NCO (E7) yesterday for wearing his beret inside , he tried to ignore what I was trying to say then I said SFC your wrong, I am not an Officer I am enlisted , I think regardless Enlisted or not we need to correct each other, nothing worse to see a jacked up Soldier and people know it and refuse to correct them.
To add I wasnt in uniform I could have been an Officer he would have never known, point being he was wrong and I made an on the spot correction.

I had the OSI on speed dial.
Impersonating an Officer is some serious stuff.
When Jimmy Stewart made the movie where he flew the B-36 and B-47. I think it was Strategic Air Command. He had to get special permission to wear the insignias of rank he wore. The uniform was fine, he was an a USAFR Brig General. When he put on a lower rank for the movie the Department of Defense signed off on it before hand.
That indicates how seriously many military members take the uniform and abuse there of.
Personally, I have and wear a DAV belt buckle. If I wasn't I wouldn't. Your make believe officer may end up with his posterior kicked up between his ears...

Report the guy to the MP's and let them handle it, he broke the law. After the nice MP's visit and and after sweating out what's going to happen, it might make him change his ways.
EDIT
For conranger1
Yes, I know the MP's don't have power over civilians, but it’s going to be much easier for him to go to the MP’s, and they are in a much better position to get the ball rolling, or give him a name of someone to contact.
I’m going to bet this isn’t the first time the MP’s have heard about someone pretending to be in the military, and they may already have good contacts, or they might just visit the guy to find out if he's really in the military or not.
That why I said contact the MP’s

First you should never allow yourself be in a position to be corrected in public by anybody.
Secondly the person who misrepresented himself in public is guilty of contravening the new "Stolen Valor Act" and should be reported to the F.B.I. for investigation.
For Richard; The Military Police have no power over a civilian (unless the guy is on a military base) its a matter for the Police / F.B.I. to handle.

I'd probably be more upset with myself for not recognizing him as an impostor right off,
A fighter pilot and a SEAL, that should have been an easy story to pick apart. There are more people that claim to be SEALs than there are actual SEALs

for people who began off all this nonsense approximately rape being redefined as a lot of harmless issues or on an analogous time as any form of hetero intercourse, interior the comparable way as kinfolk violence is now 'defined' as a lot of harmless issues, and is basically suited while the complainant is a girl - the comparable rule applies. they have 0 pastime in people as people - purely as a skill to an end - yet those comparable people decry some mythical Patriarchy as perpetrating 'oppression' of females, asserting it is is making use of people as a skill to an end. no longer purely do those people have an absolute loss of pastime and challenge for the adult men adversely affected, in addition they have not any challenge for the females adversely affected, no count if it relatively is via no longer having a valid criticism acted on, or via being gulled into making a pretend criticism and for this reason working the prospect of criminal prosecution. it is an extremely exciting game here :- in the beginning, if all court situations are universal and acted on, they win, via being waiting to show out that adult men, all alongside, have been the rapists they declare them to be, and for this reason could desire to be 'oppressors'. This additionally contains the bonus of disempowering adult men falsely convicted socially, legally, financially and in each and every way. (and a few attempt to assert that those persons are no longer waging a conflict against us!). Secondly, if genuine court situations are became away, they are able to shout from the rooftops that females are being abused and discriminated against via the Patriarchy, interior the guise of police and the judiciary. Thirdly, if females are prosecuted for making fake claims, they returned win via being waiting to assert that females are being abused for making rape court situations and are being oppressed as quickly as greater, with the internet result being that The Patriarchy has won and it relatively is now honest game for all females to be raped. it is what comes of sitting for too long in physique spray-crammed rooms and discussing the bits and bobs of issues - you the two lose attitude or you notice a golden probability to make a killing any which way you prepare dinner the goose! it relatively is form of like your Kafka seize ingredient, and that i'm commencing off to ask your self no count if it relatively is a real orchestrated marketing campaign, encouraging females to make as many court situations as achievable with the intention to falsely generate some end of their favour.

If anyone in a military uniform came to a non-military location and "corrected" me about anything, I would say, "with all due respect, sir...kiss my @$$!"
I do not care if they were a real officer. That is not the place for them to interject anything.
