To learn. To love learning. To learn from others mistakes so they don't have to make them all on their own. To learn how to learn and know the value of learning.
I have exposed my son, (now 18 years old), to many different things. Art, travel, and different cultures, ... different professions, .... many different advanced schools of thoughts like science, mathmatics, literature, .... fashion and finance, ..... as much as I could possibly cram into 18 years. We never got bored with this. Finding day trips to go explore things in our area when we were broke.... then saving up money so he could travel with a group of his friends to Europe when we had a little bit of money. I never regretted one penny of the money I spent to expand his mind.
A month ago, he and a friend just jumped into the car and traveled to Canada with their passports, all alone..... just to see the country. They had very little money, but did just fine.
I want my son to enjoy his life and never be afraid to grab positive opportunities that come his way. Now it is all up to him. I am confident that he will do just fine with the rest of his life.
Sigh.... time for me to rest now. :o)

This is more of a theoretical answer: Instead of handing my child a fish, I will teach my child to fish.

To love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love their neighbor as themselves.
As Jesus taught, if we "seek first the kingdom of God, all these (other) things shall be added unto you."
