There is this boy who is 14 from Africa who came across my profile. He gave me a very sad story about how he had lost his parents and he wanted me to be his mom. He asked me if I could send him a notebook and some pencils, I said sure. Now everytime I chat with him he wants more and more things, now he has even asked me to send him money and he wants me to hide the money in something so that the Africa postal workers can not see it. Right now I have not sent him any items or money. I don't mind helping someone in need but how do I know if this kid is for real? Also if he is as poor as he claims to be how is it possible for him to have a computer and a cell phone? I don't want to turn my back on anyone that is in need but I am on a fixed income and I do not want to be taken advantage of.

there are a lot of people in africa right now, who are involved in scamming people on the internet... at first they try to develop a relationship (such as this sad story), and then they start asking for money or other favors.
i'd put him on "ignore" .. he's probably a 50 year old man pretending to be a kid.

It sounds like he is actually an adult preying on your heartstrings. I would definitely not send him any money. A notebook and pencils were fine. You were right to question where he is getting on the internet. By doing that I think that you have answered your own question. Do not send this person anything else and you will not be taken advantage of.

i think its a scam personally, because seriously who can afford a computer and cell phone and live in Africa?
I cant even afford my stuff and i have alot of money. I think its a scam and if i were you i would say to him,
Im sorrry your poor but i just cant help you any more. That would be the nice thing to do. but i think it was nice you sent him a colloring book and pencils.
