The church had an infusion in the 1960's with the meeting of the Vatican II council under Pope John that changed the church forever. The main result of Vatican II was to make the Catholic church more amiable to the people. Changes made included that the Mass would no longer be said in Latin and that the priest would no longer say the mass with his back turned to the people. Most of the archaic church laws and rituals were revisited and altered. Convents, for better or worsted saw a mass exodus of sisters. Some left as the changes were too dramatic, others left as they felt needs to do different works and they were no longer banished as a result of their leaving, In a nutshell, a conservative view seemed to ease making the church more reachable to its flock. The hierarchy of the church challenges its ultra conservative views.

Two big ones:

1) The Mass was no longer said in Latin, but the vernacular was encouraged.

2) In the Canon of the Mass...amongst other things, the words "mystery of faith" were dropped, and "for all" was substituted for "for many" in the Consecration of the Wine.

There are hundreds of other changes...some big, some not-so-big.

Do a search of the terms "Tridentine Mass" and "Novus Ordo Mass" and compare the differences for yourself.

Lots has changed since I was Catholic - I now attend a non-denominational church. I haven't forgotten the Christ-centered roots for which I am grateful - but I am much more fulfilled now in my faith in Jesus Christ because it's more about a one-one relationship with Him.
