I'm 45 business woman and I work as H.R. manager in a big multinational company.
Some months ago, during a big convention in an exotic location, far away fro any hospital,I had to suffer terribly because of kidney stones.
After hours of excruciating pain and nobody who could help me, in spite of all my efforts, I didn't manage to fight back the tears and I started silently crying in front of many of my colleagues.
I felt very embarassed...
What do you think?
How old were you last time that physical pain made you cry?

I know the pain of kidney stones, and I am amazed that you were able to hold back the tears for as long as you did. You must be a very strong woman, and there's no reason for you to feel embarrassment over this.

My mother's dog recently had kidney stones removed, and the vet pointed out the tracks leading from her eyes and stated that she had been crying. Even animals shed tears when the pain is that great, so you have nothing to be ashamed of.

As for myself, I suffer with RA, and at the age of 43, when the pain is severe, I sometimes cry daily.

It's been a couple of years for me. My stomach was hurting so bad. All I could do was lie there and wait for the pain to go away. And yes...I cried! Eventually, I went to the emergency room and found out that I had an ulcer. OUCH! Personally, I don't think age plays a factor when it comes to pain. If something hurts and there's nothing you can do to make the pain go away, I think it's only natural that you would cry. I have always heard that kidney stones hurt very badly. It's enough to bring a grown man to his knees, so I know this wasn't easy for you at all. Don't be embarassed b/c you know how you felt. Crying is just an emotional thing. You were hurting and there was nothing to ease the pain. Did your colleagues know you had kidney stones? If they did, they probably knew why you were crying. If they didn't know, they were probably more concerned than anything. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Besides, there is nothing you can do about it now. So put it all behind you, and move forward.

You cried because of kidney stones!!! WOW! I cried three weeks ago at work when my finger got caught in a door. I said a bad word, too, but my boss acted deaf, which was nice of him!

I don't see any cause for you to be embarrassed, kidney stones is (are?) said to be one of the worst pains humans ever suffer, most people in your situation would have had a good cry, too.

May I suggest, however, that in such a situation, a good move is to let a couple of people you are friendlier with 'in on' the situation.

That way you have some support, emotionally AND during the sessions, and your colleagues can take the role of explaining to anyone who does ask, rather than you having to deal with questions from concerned people as well as the pain and your work!

Hope you feel better now!

Cheers :-)

You are NEVER to old to cry! Pain is pain! My patients cry! I cry! I have some undiagnosed kidney or liver problem now. The pain makes me cry. I don't care whose watching. DON'T be embaressed. These people SHOULD have helped you. Did anyone offer you ANY help? Shame on them, if not.

Kidney stones, I understand is worse than child birth. I had a man come into the ER once, he was screaming....just screaming and crying. He was passing a stone. The pain was out of this world.

Hun, if you're in pain, you're in pain. Age has nothing to do with it.

Why are you worried about what other people think of your crying? If they were in pain would your response be "Look at the big baby crying!" or would it be more of a sympathetic response? I think that most people would feel the need to offer their help or at least their empathy in the matter. If anyone thinks they could suffer for very long without relief from pain then they are the monster, not you!

It shows that you are HUMAN. You know the Doctor's have a chart in thier office that has "faces" on it in degrees of pain in which you can see "tears". I wish more people would show that they are 'human' in this world today. If ur in pain-show it. You may get the help u need-faster. Some people-in medical instances, feel that no tears or show of immotion says they're not in pain enough for there to be a problem. It's not like ur crying over a broken nail- then we would call u BRITANY. If ur having a moment- like us women tend to get when we get older, I would only suggest maybe heading to the 'ladies room' for privacy or something to that effect.

oy! you have no reason to be embarrassed. I have been told by women who have have had kidney stones that the pain is worse than childbirth... and there is no reward to it. You have no reason to be embarrassed at all. The pain is excruciating and crying is one way of dealing with it. I am stunned that nothing could be done for you. Kidney stones are awful awful and extremely painful.
Do NOT worry about it at all.
Hope you're now doing better.

Why on earth would you be embarrassed by crying; if that was my case, I'de be mortified every time I go to the movies!! My husband suffers chronic back pain, and at times it would be easier for him if he cried, as a lot of doctors just dont believe the pain is bad, when you have that "stiff upper lip", and as far as your colleagues go; surely any of them that have ever had a pain would understand yours. I'm a nurse, and I've seen grown men crying like babies, because of kidney stones.

kidney stones are seriously pain worthy to merit tears. I suffer from fibromyalgia and cry a few times a year when the pain meds just do not work.

Extreme physical pain, especially pain related to kidney stones, is completely warranted.
