What is the purpose of a pure breed dog club and a national dog club? What do they do and how are they important?

The obvious is, they bring together others with the interest in the same breed. There is such a vast amount of information, education, and knowlege available to a person by belonging to a breed club.

Just yesterday one of my clubs held a sanctioned B match in conjunction with the local all breed club holding a fun match. Great time had by all, hoped to have attracted some new people, gave the dogs practice.

Your breed clubs do so many things besides promote their breed, ethical breeding and showing. They contribute to the studies of diseases affecting their breed and keep the membership updated and informed of new studies, latest information from the studies. The national club passes along information regarding proposed legislation that will affect members and has delagates to represent the membership at important hearings, most recently was proposed laws that would extremely affect dog owners in the state of California. The national club has representative to work with AKC on all issues that will affect registered dogs and owners of registered dogs.

The list is nearly endless but there are many, many reasons for breed specific national clubs and local clubs.

I have attended some wonderful and educational seminars held by the clubs. I won't say a person could not show and breed successfully without membership in a club, but membership will make it easier. You will have instant feed-back on your breeding program/plans. A virtual library of information to answer most, if not all, of your questions.

You will build lifelong friendships.

Like the commercial says: It is priceless

Join one and sometimes you have to wonder. I have been a member of several regional clubs, and do not currently belong to one. Sometimes it is a big gripe session and the cutting down of other peoples dogs.
On the brighter side, they usually offer some fun activites that are in the non-show department. Fundays, parades, working events, hospital visits......all kinds of good stuff. They also maintain a breeder referral list for the area, and try to educate people who are looking for puppies of that breed.

I do belong to my National club, because as a breeder of that breed, you should. Still...a lot of crap and griping. You can get a bunch of people as officers that have their own adgenda, which you may or may not agree with. But again, they sponsor working events, speciality shows, and try to raise public awareness about the breed and dogs in general. They usually have health issues in the forfront and also maintain a breeder referral team and rescue group.

They are multi purposed.
They keep owners of registered dogs in touch with each other.
They track the history of the breed.
They can help you find a reputable breeder.
They do socializing events where you can meet others with the same breed.
They keep track of and educate on the breed standards AND on the breed traits.
They discuss what traits need to be strengthened and what new problems may have arisen in the breed.
They keep track of any health problems the breed tends to have.

They are important because of what they keep track of.
You may not need to join the breed club, but it's good that they are there.

They also have a lot to do related to people who wish to show their dogs.

I belong to a few. I love the breed clubs. You get first hand information right from other owners. Also great information about health issue with in your breed. Showing info, and just plain fun things coming up.
Also you get to meet your piers in your breed, great advice on how to correct certain thing that concern you with your dog too. Also how to get your dog into other activities other than showing it.

I would recommend them highly!

Some of us believe it is the best way for putting down mongrel or unpatriotic puppies, and that this club is weighty enough to knock the lights out of such vermin in one easy downward stroke.

These clubs are obviously important if we are going to keep the blood groups, and the valuable hereditary characteristics, pure and unadulterated by low foreign and alien influences.

Only then will the chosen few be able to reap the rich rewards of such dedication and sense of duty.

You can not afford to delay, get your dog club now!

dog clubs are active in conformation and sometimes sports like obedience and agility.
national clubs do all sports and have to confirm shows at the dog clubs. judges are members of the national clubs. in other words, a soccer organization has to let local soccer clubs host the games at the feild or their choice.
