There is more than one method...

1) Start the eggs in cool water, just enough water to cover the eggs. Bring the water to a boil, and keep it boiling for 6-8 minutes. Remove the eggs promptly, and cool them under running water to prevent the green ring from forming on the yolk.

2) Same start, but turn off the heat when the water is boiling. Let the eggs sit in the hot water for 10-12 minutes. Cool the same way.

3) Steam the eggs. Put a small amount of water in the pan under the steamer, add the eggs. Steam for 15 minutes. When cooled, these eggs are the easiest to peel (the eggs slide out of the shells!) I just learned this one, and now will never boil again.

I cant really tell u the exact time to boil an egg becoz it depends on the size of the utensils and the water u used.
But this wont go wrong if you:
Place the room temp eggs in a pot and pour in water slightly 2cm above the egg. When the water is boiled, cover the pot. To be sure that the egg is cooked and boiled, check if the eggs have float on top of the water. Take the eggs out and place under cool running water leave it for awhile then start peeling.
Hope this help =)

Place it into a pan of boiling water. Hard-boiled eggs should be boiled for 5 minutes, soft, runny eggs for 3 minutes. I prefer mine slightly runny in the middle so i can dip strips of toast with butter and marmite (soldiers) in it! yum!
