I don't know about the best, but we love the Peep & the Big Wide World series. It's about a small chicken, Peep, and his adventures exploring the world around him with his friends Quack, a duck and Chirp, a bird. The episodes are all science-based, and there's a clip of kids doing an experiment afterwards.

For example, Peep learns about seasons, Peep learns about cats, Quack learns about skunks, Chirp tries to fly, Peep meets a caterpillar and learns about butterflies.

Joan Cusack narrates, and the artwork is bright, simple and appealing.

It's very cute, educational and hey, I can watch it a million times without screaming!

I'm a big fan of the sesame street ones. I enjoyed them when I was a kid and now little ones today are still watching them. They are both fun and educational. There has to be something good with a series that has been around for over 20 years and is still one of the most recognized by kids of all ages.
