I have learned the hard way to choose my own answer even if there are 2 or 3 that I am having a hard time choosing.

Everyone has their own opinions on every topic. Sometimes it is hard to choose the answer you like best if there are more than one. Sometimes people answer spitefully or arrogantly.... because they just don't like the question... in which case they should just move on to the next one and not bother to answer those they just don't like.

"If you can't say nothing nice, then just shut up!" I always say.

Simple explanation, if you put a question up for vote:

1) The community will either usually pick the first or second answer because of the easy points and because people are usually too lazy to read all the answers....

2) Or people vote for their own answers (usually with multiple accounts) in hopes of gaining those precious 10 points.....

sometimes people just vote for their own answers so they at least get that one vote. Other times they will just vote for the funniest or most original even though it won't be the best. Especially in the Religon and Spirituallity section it seems like there are an awful lot of athiest haters that spend a lot of time putting down religon as a whole.

Because of this I never ever put a question to a vote. I always choose for myself.

The "community" is limited to those who vote in this instance. If you want the answer that most appeals to you, then you will have to select that answer rather than relying on others to do it for you. I vote far less frequently than I post. Whether you elect the answer that most appeals to you or three other people vote on the answer that most appeals to them is entirely up to the asker.

Because people go vote to get points- and very seldom read every answer. They get into a hurry, and may read the first few then pick the best out of those, but I think it is always best to pick your own best answer, unless they are all just stupid!
