Can, probably will, and if you were, you deserve to be.
If you were not, go to court, and plead not guilty, the policeman may not show up, and the charges will be dropped, you will at least have your say.

This is a UK question.
I think it is indeed the case that the opinion of two police officers can be used to convict without in-car speed measuring equipment.
It is a difficult situation. Have they given you a conditional offer of a fixed penaty or have they summonsed you to court already?
I would recommend an internet forum that specialises in speeding and road traffic issues:
www.pepipoo.com
They are very good, and have the option of paying a joining fee for more expert advice.
If you win your case in court, then you should put in an application for costs, which could run into several hundred pounds.
Roundabouts and motorway slip roads do not have speed limits. Is it possible that your slip road does not have a speed limit?
All sorts of possibilities.
I get annoyed with police and others trying to criticise you and prosecute you for driving very fast. There are some scenarios where it is perfectly safe to drive at 72 in a 40 (such as late at night, well lit, away from built up areas in good visibility)

As an ex policeman with Lanashire road traffic you have unfortunatley my son been nicked by the countries finest road traffic unit.
The officer is correct you watch to much police camera action had you been doing 47 in a 40 no camera on you would of got away it but the road traffic act means that a police officer needs to witness your averae speed over a quarter mile area to determine a 10% discrepency in road speed as 72 is a 89% variable your bang to rights.
My suggestion pay the fixed penaly and take the points as you exceeded the speed limit by 30 miles an hour a magistrate has to power to ban you and imply a fine of 1/3 of you annual income. so 6 points and £60 is not so bad.
I do not know what diesel cars these people are driving but get them serviced 30% of all traffic police cars are diesel and capable of speeds in excess of 160 mph.
I have a diesel top speed 156 mph but because it says 156mph does not mean i use it.
May i point out that 55% of all deaths on roads happen on roads marked 40mph as the odds of a fatality jumps from 1 in 10 on 30 mph to 1 in 4 on a 40 mph road.
Police officers do become as you put it arsey imagine the impact of pulling dead or wounded people from cars has on them as people because thats what they are fathers and husbands at the end of the day just like you and me.

Ha ha ha, sounds like you got cockey and tried to get away with your crime by asking for proof. They will indeed see you in court, you will end up paying a bigger fine because of your refusal to accept you were speeding.
You should accept that if you are caught then you have to take the punishment.
You tried to contact him twice after the offence has been dealt with at the side of the road?????
The paperwork will already be in the system, why would he show you the evidence before going to court?
Since when do diesel cars not do 70 mph? you are indeed a fool!

The Police really don't have anything better to do then go out, pick a car they don't like then waste there time doing paperwork to summons you to court just because you were driving down the road.
The Police really don't make up things like this....it is so easy to go to a place with real speeding issues and catch drivers that are banged to rights and help road safety....why an earth would they just want to pick you if your not doing anything wrong.
I think you'll just have to accept you were speeding.
It will take the officer at least 1/2 hour to do the paperwork to put you to court plus another hour if you plead not guilty why would he do this if he could've given you a fixed penalty notice at the roadside (which he would've done if you weren't going so bloody fast).

I stay interior the united kingdom and the police right here have a plenty extra convenient approach. they do no longer pull human beings over for rushing in any respect. What they do is they detect a toll street with a curve or a bridge over it, they set up a digicam and that they video reveal each motor vehicle and examine what velocity it particularly is doing. If it breaks the fee shrink, a image is taken which archives the time, area, velocity and motor vehicle extensive style plate. A letter arrives interior the submit with the main significant factors, a hefty effective and informing you that the suited factors have been further on your licence (this relies upon on how briskly you have been going however the minimum is 3 factors and once you attain 12 they take your licence away) i'm confident that this might in all probability be rolled out quickly because it particularly is extra value-effective than pulling human beings over and might generate an excellent style of gross sales for the government. They love motorways because it particularly is plenty extra convenient to capture human beings out.

You need to write to the Chief of Police for Cheshire and keep a copy, asking for the photographic proof of your speeding. You then ask for a full signed copy of the police report and ensure the times are accurate and specific.
You need to write your own statement, which should include 'all' the details you say above and any other comments you wish to add. And finally wait for the NIPS to arrive (Notice of Intended Prosecution) this must be served within 14 days of the incident and must be correctly dated and timed as per the original police statement. If any of the details differ you will with a solicitors aid get the case dropped.
If you are guilty then pleading not guilty will be viewed very dimly and will result in a far more serious disqualification and fine. The choice is yours to persue or to take the rap on the knuckles.

I don't see what having a diesel has to do with it, mine can go considerably over that speed. And it only requires the evidence of the two officers, there does not need to be a camera, calibrated or not. Furthermore, contrary to another answer, slip roads and roundabouts DO have speed limits.
I'm afraid you haven't a chance.

The officer does not have to show you proof on the side of the road. If you are paced, no proof exists. In fact when he tells you once that you don't have to see proof and you keep asking, it tends to annoy the officer. You are not a lawyer or the judge. When you can choose to go to court and try to prove why you feel you are innocent.

You would know whether you were exceeding a speed limit of 40 so excessively but, if you were approaching some sort of junction at that speed, you are fortunate you were not charged with dangerous driving. Fight it if you know that you are in the right. I admit that on a long run-in off a motorway it is quite easy to enter a restricted area at a high speed.

I don't know what sort of a diesel car you have, but in my experience, I've never encountered one that's incapable of doing 72mph. Perhaps if it's a tractor, you can claim the diesel engine is not capable of such speed. If you are certain that you were within the speed limit, then seek legal advice - if you're not, then pay up and accept the consequences.
