I had a Ohio CDL and lost it several years ago due to a DUI (beer) in Kentucky (was in own vehicle not truck). I was having some serious problems at the time and was drinking very heavy. I had no business behind the wheel of anything and realized that. I never even tried to get my License back.

This was 14 years ago and I have taken care of my drinking problem (4 years sober) so I'd like to drive again as I can handle it now.

I have 'Out -Of-State-Drug Offense' on my records. I just have to pay a $30.00 reinstatement fee to get license back but the insurance would kill me with the drug thing on there. I don't do drugs and have no record that would say that I was a user.

How do I fix this?

Local Kentucky DMV only open 9:00am to 12:00 on Mondays and they can't help me. Can't even contact Frankfort. All the websites to KDMV end up being ads for insurance company or lawyers.

Any real websites that I can go to?

Thanks,
Mike h.

I would be getting a Kentucky License but I still need to get Ohio cleared first.

I have never had a Kentucky License. I have done everything that they (Kentucky) wanted me to. I went to the DUI Classes and paid KAPS.

I can't aford a attorney so I want to see what I can do on my own first. I need to know who to contact and how.

Thanks mflenaha, I checked it out and that is a website for vehicle dealers. I need the Drivers License one.

You are right about no Kentucky DMV, they call it 'Kentucky Transportation Cabinet'. Thanks for your time.

Thanks Lippie, I still don't want something like that on my record. I'm not a drug user and never have been, it's just the idea that something like that is on my record and could show up in the future.

I feel like if I pay the $30.00, I'm agreeing with it or admitting it in someway.

It was alcohol related conviction not any drug. I have no idea why this bugs me so much but it does and I'd like it removed or corrected.

For future readers: I had an Ohio CDL and I always hated contacting Columbus (Ohio) about my license. Long wait and then after being transfered a zillion times, I got the wrong info.

NOT ANYMORE: I sent a email with all my info and someone ACTUALLY CALLED ME! I was shocked to say the least.

I found out everything that I needed to know to take care of that end of getting my license back. They told me that out-of-state-drug-suspension was a common thing that is done. It will show up as alcohol if anyone ever checks this information (insurance, jobs etc).

I am the first one to send a letter of complaint, I must also be able to send one of complements when things are done right or above what is called for

SO KUDOS OHIO DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES and whoever is in charge. Great job!

If you have a conviction, and it is that old, it should not go against your insurance. Go check what your insurance rates could be if you get your license back, they will give you quotes. I'd pay the $30. cause Insurance is going to get you no matter what.

Try this:
http://www.mvc.ky.gov/
In Kentucky, it's not called Department of Motor Vehicles, it is called Motor Vehicle Commission.
