There are several ways... first though, I'd take the dog to the vet and make sure fleas are his/her only problem. Then I'd get the dog on flea and heart worm medications (typically vets use front line and heart guard), my dog is on Revolution and I haven't had a problem with fleas. Then you will want to vacuum anywhere the dog sleeps, plays, or lays around. (basically your entire house), you'll want to do this every couple of days just to make sure all the dead fleas are picked up. Then keep an eye on your dog to make sure the fleas are going away.

Bathe the dog in a dish soap bath. While the dog is being bathed, be certain to saturate the fur, all the way to the skin. Then let the sudsy water sit on the coat, for a few minutes. Then, immediately use a flea comb on his face, ears, muzzle, and anywhere you did not get wet with the bath. Be certain to very thoroughy comb these areas to remove the "survivors" that abandoned ship when the fur got wet (there will probably be quite a few that ran for the dry places - but you don't want to get the face or head too wet and scare your dog, or get soap in his eyes - so the flea comb is a really good way to catch them). Have a cup of water with dish soap in it, to dip the comb with the captured fleas in, to kill them before they jump off the comb. Have the dog lay down, and look in any crevices, such as under the "armpits", etc. where any other fleas may be hiding. Dish soap does kill fleas. In about one or two weeks, you will need to bathe the dog, again, because although the bath will kill the adult fleas, the eggs on the dog are not killed. You can also get a product that will interupt the breeding cycle, for the fleas on any furniture or carpeting. Some people say that thorough vacuuming each day helps this.

First you should give a dog a flea bath so you can get all of his fleas off his body. Secondly i would start to wash anything the dog lays on so he dog has no chance of getting infected again. Once you do all of this give the dog a flea applicator so that the dog is protected, i recommend going to your vet to get the flea applicator and not buying it from a pet store. This is the best way to get rid of fleas!!!

I use advocate monthly and this will prevent your dog from getting fleas- hence my dogs have never had fleas before but ask your vet-the nurses will usually offer free advice but then use a monthly parasite on your dog- advocate, revolution- whatever suits your budget.

Take it for a good shower. But if there is still allot of fleas, take it to the nearest vet for a check. And it is even better if you bring it once every month.

Frontline, Advantage, Revolution and Advocate are all good. I recommend Frontline Plus. You'll need to get a housespray from a vets too.

Don't use anything from a pet store or supermarket, they're all useless because stores aren't allowed to sell the proper drugs.

I use Advocate monthly.
You can always use a few drops of lavendar oil on the back of their neck, it is very useful for getting rid of fleas and keeping them away.,
Make sure you wash their bedding in anti flea rinse, and if they are in your house, use a flea bomb to eradicate them from your carpets and internal bedding.

I don't know, maybe buy a shampoo for dogs that kills fleas. That's what I did to my dog.

apply frontline to your pet and then clean the pet bedding and spray your house with flea spray to catch any fleas lurking there
