I had the tooth out on weds, and i was ok for the first couple of days, the pain wasn't that bad, just very slight if i caught that side of my face. But it's slowly been getting worse, so that now its all of the time i'm in pain. I don't know if it's me being paranoid and i'm just not giving it a chance, but i'm also been having a nasty taste come from that side of my mouth when i swallow sometimes. I've had one out before and i don't remember it being like this, but this time i had to have stitches. Shall i go back to the dentist tomorrow or am i wasting their time? And if I should what are they likely to do?

Hi there..

The pain and nasty taste indicate a dry socket.

The dentist can clean it, painlessly need I add, and it will clear up.

A dry socket is when an insufficient blood clot forms, this may also be resultant of the stitches.

Its more common in smokers and in lower teeth.

See your dentist s/he wont mind and it'll take a minute only

Hope u feel better

Sounds like you could have a bit of an infection especially if you have a nasty taste or smell coming from it. Go back to either your dentist or doctor and ask for some antibiotics. I too had a tooth out on Wednesday and already it has nearly healed over with no pain. Good luck.

i had my first ever tooth out in 36 years last Monday and i have been having problems with this first i had dry bone then the dentist put some stuff in it to help it heal but i have poor blood flow and the dry bone has come back i too now have a sickly taste coming from the hole so i do believe you may have an infection and u will require antibiotics so go and see your dentist first thing in the morning as this will only get worse good luck and i will be doing the same so good luck.

Definitely go back to the dentist., You should be classed as an emergency. If you can be there when the dentist starts work (9 a.m., or whatever) you will stand a better chance of being seen promptly.

You should not still be suffering pain. Sorry cannot say what they are likely to do, but you should definitely have the sore spot examined.

Hope you get on OK.

Regards Jo.

I would go back to the dentist, you might need root canal work and by the sound of it you require antibiotics as it seems like you could have an abscess
