hello doc j. have u watched the tv show House? why do the doctors there.. like doctor chase the ones doing the laboratory testing for the serum bilirubin and all? isn't that supposed to be done by medical technologists? just asking. thanks

medical technologists do the testing. if a physician came into the lab to do their own testing, they would be invited to leave the lab. pathologists are in charge of medical labs, but often aren't familiar enough with the testing procedures and instruments to do them on their own. their job is interpretation of the results and reviewing tissue slides, as well as anatomic pathology.

Yeah, that's funny because you will probably never see a doc from the floor ever doing lab testing. Pathologists ( doctor studying in body tissues) do a great deal of testing but lab techs and med techs do most of the lab work.

It's a tv show that's why. In real life, there's one person who operates the MRI/CT scan, another person who does the surgeries and invasive procedures, another person who does the echocardiography and another who processes the blood and specimens. But that would mean too many actors and less airtime for the stars

Because its TV and Doctors dont do anything that can be done by someone else. Like lab work, cpr, abg's and so forth.
