Sounds more like an idea that humans would invent as a marketing technique for their made-up religion, to me.

If there is one basic tenet that runs through most judeo christian faith it is fear. Fear of punishment by god or fear of the afterlife it is all about the threats.

I do not know why any one in their right mind would want to worship such a hideous god as that. The God that I worship has set a day (which is not known to us but is only known to Him) in which He will judge the earth (all of humanity for all of time) and the law that He will use is His 10 Commandment Law which, like Him, is eternal and unchangeable. The sentence that will be meted out to the wicked will destroy them in this manner: 1) Their bodies will be burned up completely. 2) The breath of life that God gave them will be completely destroyed also. 3) The very memory of them will be wiped from ALL memory, and that includes the memory of God Himself. In that way there can be NO resurrection of the wicked and no 'for eternity' of suffering. They will be forever as if they had never been. This Is The God That I worship! This Is The True God. Not that make believe god that the Catholics tell the world to worship. Which by the way is really satan.

I don't think this question has ever been asked, congrats on originality.

However if you like truth, I don't think the idea of hell is meant to coerce people, it's supposed to be a reminder of why steeping off the path of goodness is quite a bad idea.

I think the general idea of living a good life being a necessity is a good one, however using hell as a device to force people into following the ways of the bible is not.

However as an Atheist or an Agnostic, you don't really have to wonder if something inside your moral boundary is wrong according to your religion, so I'd have to say non-believers are able to live their lives a little more freely.

For myself it was not the threat of eternal torture which caused me to believe in God.
It is the promise of eternal good, joy, wholeness, and community with others and God which for me made it reasonable to take a leap of faith and believe Christ for my salvation.
Was there a fear of Hell and damnation? Not really, one of my fondest sayings regarding that very thing was... "Well, let's liven up the place then." I also had huge doubts as to the existence of such a thing. Now, I know it to be true, although I have not yet figured out the whole picture. I am glad to be spared it, yet I do not wish it for anyone else.
God said that He so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that no-one should perish but that those who would believe in Him would have everlasting life.

I can certainly agree with your call on this... Believing that there is a god after taking a look at how it behaves is just a tad to far to the gullible side, isn't it?

More and more thinking individuals would have to agree that there is no god and never has been. Gods are just a lot of man made fantasy characters used to deliver messages designed to act as a governing heads with the authority to ride heard over the masses.

Very interesting thought, a similar analogy that's comes to mind is that of the USA, if you aren't with us you are against us in this war on terrorism.

Can we all assume that this same marketing technique is being used by the USA to try and dictate to the world its own brand of freedom?

Each action has a reaction. And every action has consequences.
Actually Allah doesn't need us,humans, He can create better creatures that would obey him, but He wants to test us.

There are people who will spend their life stoned realizing nothing but their wild dreams and ignoring anything real but their wild life. God lead to peaceful life before and after death.

Someone makes a bus.
They tell you: "Don't step in front of the bus, it hurts".
You step in front of the bus.

You blame them for not creating a bus you can step in front of.

Pretty silly.

No, I'm not religious.
I'm just tired of this silly argument.
