I was told as a kid about a friend's dad who was on board one of the "ghost fleet" battleships that was bombarding Normandy on D-Day. These were sunk at Pearl Harbor and raised in time to participate later in the war. I think the ship mentioned was the Texas. A huge 15 inch Nazi shell came crashing right through the side but failed to explode. It was rolling around below decks and no one knew what to do about it as they were "busy" laying shells of their own on Omaha Beach. One more bump and it could go off. It weighed as much as a Volkswagen. So a welder was sent down to secure a crude but sturdy frame around it by welding it to the deck. Later, when they had a safer time to take care of it, the shell was opened up. Instead of the usual Krupp detonator there was a block of wood! Inscribed on it in Hebrew were the words "Sorry I couldn't do more. God bless America!" Some Jewish slave in a striped uniform risked his life in a Nazi shell factory by pulling the switch. Neat, huh?

Total Myth,

how did the Jewish Slave know the shell would be used against the Americans?

It could have quite as easily fired against the Russians!!

By the way the Nazis did employ quality control on their items of Ordnance, another point the detonator on a shell is located on the outside point / tip it is set before being loaded into the artillery piece by mechanical means once the range has been determined.

Your 15inch diameter would not equate to a shell weighing the same as a Volkswagen's either.

Never heard it, but I like it.
America needs to remember it only has one friend in the middle east.
Maybe that guy made it there I hope so.
