Please only answer this if you know for sure as this is a rather large purchase. I have a 2004 Chevrolet 2500HD 4x4 LT Diesel fully loaded and wish to purchase a remote starter but haven't the faintest idea what to look for and what to look out for. I only know there are specific starters for diesels and definitely want a system allowing me to operate the climate control at startup and have all the functions of my keyless remote. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I did a search over @ FSC(second link below) and find alot of threads on the topic. Also, find a link thru the threads concernin the Duramax diesels w/ a remote start.

Good luck!

I am a service advisor with a Lexus dealership and I can tell you that with an 04 if you do decide to purchase a remote start for you vehicle you will probably void the factory warranty on some of the components of your engine. I'm not extremely
familiar with GM products, but if something were to happen with the glow plug or ignition, you would be left holding the bag on the cost of replacing those items. Your best bet is to go to your local GM dealer and ask a service advisor if there is a GM remote start available for your vehicle that the dealership could install. This would keep your factory warranty in tack and it would be installed by people who know your truck the best. If the dealership doesn't offer a remote start, I'd just let it go. Hope this helped.

you sure are asking alot of a system. And btw...diesles don't have different starters, they work just the same as any other starter for any other vehicle. Every vehicle has a different starter, and diesels are not special in that aspect. The closest you are gonna come to having a "special" starter is having a gear reduction starter. And another thing to consider....you don't replace your starter....a remote starter is not a new starter, its a system that engages your starter.

You'll not find a system allowing you to use the AC with the remote, you'll just have to be like all us "un-special" people and turn it on when you get there.

Go to a shop that specializes in remote starter systems, and talk over your option with them. Thats your best bet.

First thing is that they are expensive. I don't think they have one that can operate the climate control. What you would do is on a hot day before you leave your truck is turn the AC on high so that when you hit the remote start, AC is cooling the interior. Cold day turn on the defrost and set on high. My brother have a remote start with pager. When the alarm goes off, the pager will alert him. It's just something extra. I don't think you have a manual truck because with manual if you left it in gear and hit remote start. Your truck will go forward and hit anything that's in its way. Final note its pretty nice to have and if your gonna wake up to a cold morning have the defrost or heating on the night before. Hope this help some what good luck.

Your best bet would be going to your local Circuit City, I have an Aveo and they were very informative to my needs and wants. There are several options when you install your remote start and they vary with specific models. Circuit City had the cheapest install rate, cheapest remote starters (and highest quality), and they gauruntee it for the life of the car!

It's pretty easy just look up car alarms and you can research which one will work best for you. Like the other guy said they won't turn on you A/C or heat you have to do that before you leave your truck. Here's two to get you started.
