Is that the kind of inspiration you would want them to use to punish you?
Why or why not??

Lucid freedom-
In many areas (America), depending upon the law, a jury will determine what the penalty should be or recommend what the penalty should be in the penalty phase. Very often, the judge will abide by the jury's decisions. It is usually only an extreme case or penalty that the judge will override.

I in no way meant this question mean spirited. I am actually asking because of a very specific case that was recently thrown out BECAUSE the jurors used a bible in sentencing deliberations.
This is important stuff to pay attention to. People who decide other citizens FATE are referring to books that have nothing to do with the law.
I think that is scary.

Lucid freedom- I'm not exactly sure how you think I misinterpreted your first answer. Was that not a statement on who makes sentencing decisions?

I really don't feel most of these people have a clue what would happen to them if they were judged from the bible. Do none of them remember the inquisition or the "witch trials"? That is what happens when people are judged straight from the bible. Religion should have no part in our court rooms whatsoever.

Im not sure where you live, but here in America we are sentenced by a judge who chooses a term length in a state prison, or for some horrible premeditated crimes, a method of execution as determined by the state.
EDIT: My point wasnt the legalism of who decided the fate, the point is a Christian as an American citizen will be subject to the same punishments as anyone else. However, I suspect your question was more of the mean spirited bent and Im going to assume you were hoping for responses that encouraged that. Something from the Old Testament, perhaps? This is yet just another post to cause division and breed hostility and is very much part of our problem.

You want the truth, 50% cant decide what the meaning of a verse means. The other half thinks they know. So which is right, you tell me. If they are right with God and have a heart . They wont have to look in the bible. You aren't going to have all Cristin's on you're jury.
They have enough to decide on without reading the bible. They should say a prayer and go to work god is right there with them.
And that would be wrong to rape the mans wife. I think it should be done to him. Not his family they weren't responsible for his actions.
I think it should be done to the person that is guilty.
I think that the, they hold to much evidence and wont let it come out at the trials and that let a lot of criminals go free. And I not sure I like these deal they make with the criminals to get information, to convict another. Just my opinion.

I spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia. They have no written laws. All law is interpreted from the Koran. Sentencing is also based upon the Koran. Civil law is also based upon the Koran. Blood money is very popular in Saudi Arabia. Makes American lawsuits look petty.
There are over 3,000 sects within the Christian religion. I don't know how many sects there are in Islam or Judaism. But if people can't even agree on interpretation of the Bible, then I suspect that the same problem exists in all the rest of the religions.
So, no, I wouldn't want them referring to any book in which they can't even agree. Of course, we still have the same problem with our book of Laws in this country, what with conflicting precedents and disparate sentencing.
So, if none of them are perfect, which is the least objectionable? Still can't get different countries to agree on that...

Jesus taught forgiveness....so yes, I would want the jurors looking at the Bible for sentencing. I also believe the Holy Spirit would guide them in their decisions.

jesus says, "do not judge, lest you be judged in the same manner." this does not seem consistent with what christians teach us about judgement.
yes non-christians tend to label christians as "hypocrites" quite often. is the label unfounded? can you prove it has no foundation, and are you following the above rule stated by jesus? i will restate it now for emphasis: "you will be judged the same way that you judge others!" this is in stark contrast to the "you'll be judged against the //standard of God//" theory posed by many christians.

In Singapore in 2001 a man was tried and found guilty of rape and sodomy. His punishment...he was hung in the middle of a public park and castrated and then killed. An eye for an eye. We are all sinners, there's no escaping that but we CAN control committing crimes. So, my answer is yes.
"Suiegner..." did they punish people for accidents in the Bible? Please tell me the scripture.

We are all judged in the end by God and his law anyhow. Bring it! My hope is in Jesus.
