It is easier than trying to pass medical boards in the US. Besides, a nurse in the US will make very good money compares to being a doctor in the Philippines.

Training to be a doctor is not a direct superset of training to be a nurse. The missing portion is made up quickly, however.

The medical schools in the Philippines are at par with top medical schools elsewhere. Some reasons for taking up nursing among Filipino doctors are the ff:
1. Nurses are in demand abroad more than doctors.
2. It's easier to apply abroad as a nurse rather than as a doctor since most countries regulate the influx of medical doctors so as to guard the niche of their own graduates. It's better to get nurses you can order around than doctors who would order your own people around, right?
3. For a bigger salary. The Government health care system in the Philippines is really bad that a public doctor gets paid really low.
4. It gives one the opportunity to bring their family over.

Nursing job is open in the US, so Filipino doctors retrains as nurse to be able to apply and get employed in the US. Schooling and job description for doctors differ from that of nurses in the Philippines, doctors retrain in order to satisfy the requirements for the job.

medical schools in the Philippines are fine, Filipino doctors just want to go to America where nurses are in high demand. and training to become a nurse is much more easier than trying to be a doctor in America. Doctors and Nurses have different curriculum, training and purpose that Medical Doctors would not fit and qualify to become nurses. that's about it, they want to live and work in America and earn extra bucks, or they might have become sissy and decided to become a nurse instead !
