No.
There are automatic transmissions that have a manual mode but those aren't considered to be manuals for the purposes of the driving test (at least not anywhere I know of where they have the concept of restricted licences for those who can't drive (or can't drive a manual, I have trouble telling the difference)).
There are also automated manual transmissions (which you probably won't find on the cheapest cars) which are also considered to be automatics that have a sequential manual mode.
Making sure you insist on having an instructor that has a manual transmission car would be a very good idea, you'd probably take the test with your instructor's car anyway. You can still have your parents take you out in their car anyway, if you can drive a manual then you'll be able to handle an automatic.

There are some automatic cars with so called manual transmission. However its not the same as what you are looking for. These cars have a tiptronic gearbox and its not a conventional "stick" gearbox. Its not good enough for learning and no driving schools will accept it as a manual car. So it seems your mum & dad can buy an auto and you have to just go out and learn from an instructor with a proper manual car.

I don't think they have a vehicle with both a manual and automatic transmission - even in Australia.

BMW does Tiptronic Transmission where you can drive automatic and Manual. I'm not sure how much they will cost in Australia considering I'm in the US.

Yes there are. It's call manumatic. My sister has a 2004 Mazda 3. You can put the shifter in "D" and drive automatic or move it to one side and drive it manually. The thing is that you can only shift UP or DOWN on manual. You can always look it up on yahoo keyword: Manumatic. Well hope this help.

No. Cars do have triptronic transmission which is a Automatic but can be shifted mannually with buttons and no clutch. but is not close to a manual tranny. Sometimes can be shifted by auto handle up and back on sports cars.

Check out some new VWs.
They have the Triptonic transmission.
It can drive like an automatic.
Or you can push a switch and drive it like a clutchless manual.
It might be a nice compromise for your family.
