The best way to con people is with half truths. Look at Di Vinci code and Erich von Däniken.

So much of the historical may well be right but not all the content.
Another problem is the continuous translation into other languages. For instance - the number of the beast 666 is actually in the Greek 616.
As for authenticity through prophecy, the same can be said of Nostradamus. However the loosely worded text can be made to fit nearly any situation.

Authentic?
The Bible does not conform to fact and therefore is not worthy of trust, reliance, or belief: and is not an authentic account by an eyewitness.
The Bible cannot claim a verifiable origin or authorship nor can it claim that it's stories are not counterfeit or copied, so the Bible cannot be authentic and it has no intrinsic authenticity.

It depends what your criteria for authenticity are.
The one thing you can be totally sure of though is that it is not entirely authentic on any measure chosen. This is trivial to show because it has internal inconsistencies, depends on different sources for the same passages that contain copying and editorial variation, and contradicts other known historic or scientific facts quite widely.
Thus people who claim it is 100% true are living in a deluded world with a faith system basically built on a lie. It is not then surprising that such people are such a huge source of evil and conflict in the modern world.

for those who say 100%. your idiots, youve obviously never researched the subject.
for those who say its how you percieve it, you to are idiots you never researched the subject either.
that being said. no biblical scholar will agree that the bible is historically accurate.
one example, although there are thousands.
the birth of jesus.
in luke chapter 2 the bible states that joseph went to bethlehem toregister for a census that was ordered by ceaser augstus. (yes, the land was ruled by the roman empire) however looking at historical documents from the time, there was no census. actually during the roman empire a census was only carried out at the begining or end of a rulers reign.
ceaser augustes ascended the throne in 8BC, which there was a census taken, as was customary at the time. there was NOT another census until his death in 11AD.
also luke tells that quirinius was govenor of syria, which this to is incorrect, as quirinius didnt become governor until 6AD.
btw none of the kings mentioned in the old testament have any historical, or archeological evidence supporting their existance.

Authentic historic records tell the bible is a book of misinterpretations and mistranslations. Probably with a bit thrown in. I particulrly like the part where He gave his life for you and died on a tree (wooden crucifix) with a crown of thorns. very amusing, now many biblical comedians are there out there??? May get a strong following.

Textually, it is 98-99% accurate. All the books that are not contained in the Holy Bible have been carefully left out specifically for authenticity issues.
We can all trust what we read that it is the word of God by his holy spirit.

The bible is metaphores... fairytales.. warnings.. omens.. sometimes advice... but never law for it is imperfect... it is no different than a mother goose book.. but because it has the capacity to confuse, it is kept as sacred so that a few may control the many... not because the few know better of what it means just that they know how to use it to manipulate the masses
There will never be evidence of it occuring on the earth for it has never occured in the history of humanity on the earth...
