One benefit of drinking a daily cup of coffee is improved mental performance. Coffee helps improve alertness, attention and wakefulness that can actually improve mental and work performance. Groggy workers often miss important details and may make mistakes that they wouldn’t otherwise make. A cup of coffee awakens the brain and helps you to be more alert in your daily performances, whether as a worker, student or parent.
Another benefit that coffee may provide is aiding in Short Term Memory. The caffeine acts as a stimulant to the brain so that the attention can be drawn to what is necessary to focus on.
Coffee beans are loaded with antioxidants which can help minimize the likelihood of heart disease and cancer. Tea is of course known for high levels of antioxidants as well, however, it is currently being investigated to prove that coffee may have four times the level of antioxidants in some teas.
There is also evidence that coffee may improve the performance of the liver. In fact, a study completed by Professor D’amicis, Head of Nutrition Information Unit in INRAN in Rome, Italy, pointed out that coffee may protect against cirrhosis of the liver, gallbladder disease and an increase of liver enzyme. The study involved approximately 130,000 adults who by drinking four cups of coffee a day have 1/5 the risk of those who do not drink any coffee.
There are also connections between coffee and helping with exercise performance, Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, and safer driving. Lastly, there have been some even more surprising findings regarding health and coffee. Such impairments as asthma, heartburn, osteoporosis and headaches can also often be aided by drinking coffee.
Also, coffee is often put on the bad list because of its high addiction rate. While coffee certainly is addicting, it is more habit formation than a drug addiction. It may mean a few days with a headache if you choose to quit drinking coffee, however, it is a much easier addiction to break.

Coffee is an anti-oxidant and there have been some studies claiming it as a cancer fighting substance. I use a coffee shower gel because I live in Bangkok and the pollution is horrible. It helps prevent pollution damage. I also drink it. I drink green tea more now. Other then that, the caffine in it supposedly increases your metabolism which is why it's in so many diet pills. I just like the taste and one cup wakes me up in the morning. I the negative is the stained teeth but it all depends on how easily your teeth absorbs stains. Also crest white strips take care of it.

I am a tea drinker really but i say the good thing about coffee to me is when i get up at 5:00am for work. The first thing i do is drink a steaming cup of coffee, it makes me feel as fresh as a daisy ready to face the day. So funny how your tastebuds change as you get older. I used to hate coffee, now i'm drinking cappuchino, mochachino and everything! I also use shampoo with coffee extracts in it as it helps to keep my brown hair healthy and glowing.
The really good thing is it's ability to reduce the risk of cancer and the bad thing is the amount of sugar you decide to put in it. It stains really bad too.

Scarlett Ginger's answer is admirably thorough. I will only add that a cup of coffee, strong and black, first thing in the morning with the traffic below my window and a new day ahead of me, is one of the few things that can remind me how great it is to be a grownup.

Good: Warm and comforting on a cold day; caffeine gets you started, tastes great, can get you over the urge for "something" without calories.
Bad: Stains teeth, acid can be nasty (reflux made me give it up), costs money to get good flavor, caffeine may work against you, stains if you spill it.
