I'm thinking to learn oil painting myself. But wondering what are the basic (type of canvas, brushes, palette..etc) things that i should ready to get myself started without buying something unnecessary & impractical for a amartuer like me. Possible to advise what are the brands that i should consider?

Get a reasonably good set of brushes, a set of student's tube colors, a bottle of liquin, some pre-stretched canvases, some turpenoid, an old plate that you can use as a palette, a palette knife, some rags and a dropcloth.

As far as brands go... just go with what's cheap at first. ...Ask the person at the local art supply store what they recommend. {Ignore them if they start pointing out ninety dollar tubes of paint and thousand dollar easels.}

You'll need to find a place to paint... an old table, etc. You can worry about an easel if you decide to stick with it.

Do not stint on your brushes. Buy hog hair brushes. Leave the synthetic ones alone.
Canvas can be darn near anything you want to paint on for beginning. Once you get more comfortable with the medium you can buy a good cotton canvas and the best canvas to get is a linen canvas.
The oil paints can be a cheap student oil paint, this can be discarded for a superior product once you've advanced into the arena of " I think I know what I'm doing now".
The colours should be Red, Yellow, Blue and Violet. It would be wise to buy your secondaries and tertiaries until you learn how to mix your own colours.
Red, yellow, blue, are your primaries, and you should add violet to them. Orange, green, and purple are your secondary hues, and the mixing of your greys would be in the realm of your tertiaries.
Get large tubes of whites. A large tube of Flake white, this white is the oldest on the palette in oils and it is a warm white.
Also get a large tube of Titanium White. This is a recent addition to the artist's palette, and it is a cool white.
Flake white will yellow with time, Titanium won't.
Buy your self a colour wheel. It will help you a lot. There is so much more I would like to tell you but this should help to start with.
However I would caution you to draw a good drawing on your canvas before you begin painting. Good draughtsmanship is a boon to the oil painting.
Oh and one more thing. Take good care of your brushes!
When you clean them put a rag over the bristles and squeeze out the extra paint. Then clean the brushes in a cheap linseed oil. After you have removed as much paint as you can with that then go to the slop sink and wash them out with a mild dish soap in running lukewarm water. Clean them till you don't see any more colour coming out in the suds of the soap. Do not abuse your brushes, they are the extension of your hands.
All the best to you darlin.

for painting yourself I would not use oils. Too toxic and too tough to clean off of skin. Go with tempera colors or latex based paints. You'll get nice even cover on your skin that won't stain and is easy to clean with soap and water. Though why you want to paint yourself is beyond me. hehehe
