thank you.

When she was little, I would say thank you, and sometimes make a comment like "I think so too, although I may be a little biased [friendly chuckle]." I know her being cute is not really a compliment to me, but Thank You seems to be the appropriate response.

Once she started speaking well, she began to say thank you herself, as long as I was there (no talking to strangers unless mommy's right there of course).

Hey, don't let it go to your head (or hers). When a child hears that they're cute repeatedly, they get a false sense of self.

Your response should depend on who is saying it, and if the child can hear it. If the child hears it she should just say, "Thank you". If it's grandma she has some bragging rights, so you'll be able to discuss it with her. Same goes with any other close relatives.

If it's a stranger, you don't need to talk to them. Or, if you feel you must respond, you could say, "Thank you -- I think so too"

For any compliment a simple thank you is proper according to etiquette books, If the person is a stranger that is all that is necessary. If the compliment is from some you you know or a family member and you wish to brag a little, then you may fill out the conversations with thank you and she is so........ and ...... also (Sig other name)..... and I think so also,,,,,

I say thank you, and then according to the childs age i tell them to say thank you too. my son since he was able to say thank you, has been taught that when someone says he is cute, has nice eyes etc...he should say thank you! There is not much to say really , unless they have a child with them, then in that case compliment their child as well!

Just say "thank you" and smile politely. It's courtesy to acknowledge a compliment but you don't want to go over board either. :)

"Thank you. She's sweet and kind too."
We don't want your daughter to think cuteness is all that matters.

say, "thank you"

I'd be flattered. If they weren't saying anything, then I would be worried. Like, "ohh, do I have an ugly baby"

"Thanks, she IS cute isn't she. We've already got the shotguns ready for when she's a teenager and the boys come calling."
