I can't believe that some one hasn't answered this yet.
Swinging can mean anything from having sex with multiple partners (either at once or at different times)... kind of like having friends with benefits.. if you have a lot of friends... lol to couples are swingers if they find another couple (sometimes another man or woman, depending upon what they want) and swap partners. Maybe they have sex with their own partners, but with another couple in the same room.
There are also things like swing clubs...etc.

It depends on the context the word is being used in.
1) A "swinger" can be a golf or baseball player. In both these sports the player is commonly referred to as being the "swinger" or being a "swinger".
2) If it is referencing a single person it means someone who is playing the field and does not want to settle down.
3) It can be a swing dancer.
4) A swinger can also be a married or otherwise committed couple that includes other couples or singles in their sex life.
