The next week at the Brickyard 400 at Indy, he ran till the first caution at approx 18 laps. Then Mike Skinner got in the car to finish the race.
The next week after that he sat on the pole and broke the track record at Watkins Glen, a road course. Led the most laps and finished in top five.
All with a broken sternum and clavicle.
