My wedding theme is poetry. I suggested that we have poetry performed at the reception. My fiance wants (in addition to the poetry) a praise dance performance at the reception as well. I think that this is a bit much for a wedding that is themed on poetry. What's your take on having this very holy addition to the reception

I have never seen this done at a wedding before, but if your fiance really wants it, it might be nice to incorporate into the wedding somehow. I think it could still fit in with a poetry theme, especially since a song is like poetry set to music.

Would the majority of your family and friends understand the significance of a praise dance? If so, it could be a very beautiful and meaningful addition. If not, some of your guests might think it odd.

Perhaps the praise dance would fit in better during the ceremony than during the reception. The ceremony should be a holy, meaningful occasion. The reception is often more like a party.

Congratulations on your wedding! I hope it is wonderful!

Quite frankly, I think the poetry theme is too much. I have no idea why people think there has to be a theme. The wedding IS the theme. You don't have to add anything to it. And if I were at a wedding and they did a poetry reading at the reception -- don't get me wrong, I love poetry, but oh my, what a bore that would be at a reception! And as for the dancers -- I actually prefer the idea of them over the poetry. But I still wouldn't go for it. The purpose of the reception is not to entertain your guests with performances. The reception is a party for you and your guests to celebrate your marriage. Your guests are just going to want to eat, drink and dance the night away.

don't do it, anything too cultural or ethnic or weird at a reception is going to make people leave, you don't want to have the lamest wedding ever do you?
