I have severe acne and my dermatologist prescribed Doxycycline and Tazorac for me. I've been using those medications for 6 days and a few days ago my neck and right arm has been itching. Red, dry, itchy patches have formed after I started scratching it a little (it was really itchy and irritable). I went to the pharmacy today and was told to stop taking doxy and to take Benadryl for two days. Does that mean I'm allergic to doxy or can I resume taking doxy after my rash clears? My acne has not improved in those 6 days and I really want it to go away soon. I heard that doxy works and I don't want to give up on it yet...unless I really really am allergic to it, which I'm not sure. What if it's because of the rapid weather change (humid hot sunny day to a cold chilly day) and not the doxy?

you are probably allergic to it. You need to make another appointment with your dermatologist before you start taking the medication again and begin taking a new antibiotic like accutane or something.

You should stop taking both medications. Doxycycline does cause sensitivity to light. It can cause bad sun burns. Rash is not that common of a side effect.
Tazorac does list rash as a common side effect. It is normally caused by overuse.
The issue is what drug is causing the rash.

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Doxycycline sucks.

Get some Accutane with Cephelaxin. Accutane works great for my Acne. Cephalexin for my cysts!!! :) :) :)
