Going from black to caution would of have made sense for 2 laps, but not for 5 laps; unless of course they were helping Gordon out and making sure he wouldn't run out of fuel...

No, I didn't watch the race for the wrecks. I watch what little bit I see because my hubby enjoys it..I hate Nascar and wish it would away. That's why my question is based on What I saw, not anything else.

Sorry about the flag color issue. I said I wasn't a fan, guess it shows...But I still think Nascar was helping Gordon, more caution laps meant saving fuel for him. ( and I realize for everyone else, but he benefited from it the most) and the track should of have been cleaned when the RED flag was lifted....

No, i am NOT a beer throwing person. I don't know about his or anyone's driving ability. I was asking based only on what it appeared to me to be tonight.

...OK it did seem like they ran a lot of laps under caution but they actually added a lap so there would be a green white checkered finish.
...There was 12 laps left when caution waved (Yellow)
...2 laps were under caution before they realized oil was on the track
...They red flagged the race with 10 to go
...They restarted under yellow made 1 lap and some pitted (Gordon stayed out) which made it 9 to go.
...They continued to clean the track
...On lap 7 Gordon's car started cutting out (low on gas)
...They restarted with 5 to go and Newman took the lead
...Newman spins with 3 to go
...In order to have a green white checkered they had to add a lap which made it 4 to go
...They ran 2 laps under caution with two laps of racing to the finish.
...Now one of those laps between 9 to go and 5 to go could have been raced instead of run under caution. So if you count the lap they added to make a green and white checkered then it came out basically the same. Really they added a lap which would have not been in Gordon's favor.
...So really if anybody helped Gordon get fuel mileage by causing a caution it would be Ryan Newman for spinning. If Newman had not spun then Gordon might would have run out of fuel.
I think the reason they moved the cars (from red to yellow) was because the jet dryers had to blow the track off.

Sorry about all the kids and rude know it nothings here. If your going to ask a race question your better off going somewhere else the this NASCAR room full of children to ask it. I see there were a few good answers I would think at least not A holes sounding but not many.
I didn't watch the race so I can't help. I will watch next week and then my season of the weak and brainwashed deteriorating Cup series will be done for the year.

The race was red flagged not black flagged. NASCAR attempts to finish the race under green flag conditions. If Newman hadn't crashed, Gordon would have finished 2nd.

I wish all of the Gordon haters would just GROW UP. I for one am so sick and tired of all you whiners. Why can't you feel good for him? It's not like he isn't deserving of it. He has worked hard for all of his accomplishments. Green-eyed monster at work here I do believe. I bet that golf officials always let Tiger Woods win, and umpires make the ball fly over the fence for Barry and A-Rod, and the refs make sure that all opponents get away from Peyton's passes, and the refs put the AIR in Michael's shoes, and do I need to go on and on and on. NO, I should think not. I know, it is Ridiculous isn't it?. Jeff Gordon doesn't need for Nascar to help him win. He is a proven winner every place that he has raced. Why is it that people like to boo for the good guys and cheer for the bad? GO FIGURE.

People just won't give Jeff a break...no other defense except that NASCAR helps him win...too bad to have that mentality...I had rather have the 81 wins, 4 championships..than be the most popular - which I will never understand what that has to do with driving ability...or to be the Casey Kaine best looking...will always admire Jeff's driving ability and being a descent human being...hope you are not one of the beer can throwing mob..

Newman could have toasted Gordon, he drove so hard throughout the whole race, just to spin out on the last couple of laps. If your into conspiracy, I totally agree with your thinking, but the way the other drivers and/or their crewcheifs were screwing up (#20 car in the pits) Gordon deserves to win.

don't know about you, but if someone i loved was out there racing on that track, I sure as hell wouldn't want him driving on a track covered with oil!!! yeah, they needed to bring on the red flag to dry the track.
