*sigh* Because gods don't exist, not even ones that sit back and watch us shoot ourselves in the feet.

A Deist is what I'd be if I were a scientist living in a country that still hanged people for being an atheist. Fortunately, this is the twenty-first century and I live in the USA, where religious bigots are not allowed to execute people for daring to disagree with them. This means I am free to speak the truth. I am an atheist.

I was a deist once. I decided that a deist God would be completely unnecessary to the universe, so I became atheist.

Because Deists assume that there was some sort of conscious creator of the universe. Atheists don't believe the universe was "created".

hey, I went through a deist stage during my deconversion...
but it was really pointless to me. it was an attempt to cling to the idea of god, but in the end I found deism useless. If there is a god, but doesn't interact or show itself, and doesn't answer prayers, and doesn't demand worship...well, who cares about it? obviously we can live well without the influence of a deity, in such a case. and once I decided that the unvierse was capable of existing without a god, the concept flittered away into nothingness.

Does Occam's Razor mean anything to you? God isn't necessary to explain the universe, so I don't believe in him. Not even the Deist version of God.

Psalm 14
1 The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the LORD?
5 There they are in great fear,
For God is with the generation of the righteous.
6 You shame the counsel of the poor,
But the LORD is his refuge.
7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

Because "God, who created the earth and then retired to a quiet life of gardening" is only slightly less silly and reprehensible than "God, who continues to twaddle with things behind the scenes".

Deism adds unnecessary complications to the whole thing. It'd make God kinda pointless, no?
