well if you were having a cinderella wedding then yes totaly tacky but if you are doing a redneck, western, wild wild west, or cowboy reception heck ya bring out bails of hay and why not go to a thrift shop and pick up some old boots and hats and get wild flowers and put it in the boots or hat and use it as centerpices????

I love the idea! With a cowboy theme, this would not be tacky. lol, if so many other decisions within the wedding planning could be so easy. A hay bail gift table would make me feel relaxed, make me want to have fun, and would forever be memorable. Not sure what you are going to do about a the card box, but you could work in something cowboy-ish also, like maybe a single lasso around the card box, maybe a nice looking decorated trough, the possibilities are endless. I found the cutest cowboy wedding cake topper at www.7weddingingcakes.com My friend had a western/cowboy-ish theme when she got married, and it went over quite nicely, everybody had a really good time, I wish she would have thought of the gift table hay bails, I love that idea.

Some western weddings have bails of hay for the aisle. Bails of hay for the gift table could be very cute .. especially if the whole theme of the wedding is western. Bandannas, flowers in boots, etc .. have accented weddings .. and been very nice.
For one western wedding, I made a white stetson hat with strawberries around it .. for a Groom .. and a chocolate double horse shoe cake with bandanas .. and a armadillos cake.
All of it was darlin.

I think that sounds very creative! I hope the bails are sturdy enough to support the gifts.
To me, the bails fit very well with your cowboy reception idea!
All the best on your new path in life.

My caterer had in her book some pics of a cowboy wedding. Hay bails sounds hard to put stuff on, and perhaps dirty.. I don't think I would want to eat on it.
Have a regular table, but checkered table cloths and a boot for the centerpiece instead of flowers and a horseshoe party favor. I know it sounds sort of dumb, but it looked fantastic.

You definately could. Just remember though that you'll be picking hay dust and pieces from gifts and your house for months.
Another cute idea that would be so messy could be to use some old fence wood or get a picnic table then sew together a bunch of bandanas to make a cloth for it.
