I mean where will it end? I don't know HOW many big rig accidents in the past month since they have started letting the Mexican Truckers here into the US.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071014/ap_on_re_us/truck_pileup

I am using facts when I say Mexican trucks aren't safe. Not only that, but it doesn't matter if the trucks are or aren't safe, if the person behind the wheel can't drive well and can't read English.

Notice that the nationality of all of these "Accidents" aren't released in the article.

No, I am not saying that American Truckers can't be in accidents, but USUALLY they get in accidents when the weather is bad or some unforeseen reason causes them to get into an accident...not just running off of the road or going off of a bridge like happened a couple weeks ago. Word to note that all these accidents happened in Arizona, California, Florida and Texas.

I own a trucking company that transports cars. I know a lot about this issue. There are many other problems with Mexican truckers. One of the huge concerns is ALL American drivers are subject to random drug testing by the Department of Transportation and/or law enforcement. That means if a police officer pulls over a driver and thinks they might be impaired they have to take a drug test immediately or lose there CDL. Mexican trucks are not required to submit to any drug testing my US officials. Also, it is nearly impossible to verify if Mexican trucks have active insurance policies. By law drivers are required to have cargo, liability, and physical damage insurance. Often the policies are written by different companies. Third, the US does not track if the trucks are running singles or teams. Basically, you could come across the border with two drivers and leave with one and the US would not be tracking who came in and left. Of course the language barrier is a huge concern not only do to what happens on the road but also in the courts. Mexican drivers would not be able to testify in court in any matters concerning the trucking industry without a translator. Translators in US courts have a history of being unrealiable and are expensive to the US taxpayer. I am an OOIDA member. OOIDA and Teamsters are pushing hard for the US government to realize Mexican trucks on US roads are dangerous and will never be held to equal standards of US drivers.

NO NO NO! Why is our executive looking to strip us of our reputation as a sovereign country? Because this management is all approximately industry, and the entire notion folks as a country can move to hell, will have to it intrude with the exchange and trade suggestions held sacred through the Shrub. Amazing, is not it? Be a well citizen, and watch folks that aren't, and not ever will likely be, get extra privileges than we do. I am certain the truckers of America that do need to comply with the principles are pleased with this.....

Mexican trucks that are used in the Laredo ,tx. area are mostly older trucks.they are not kept to the same standards as american trucks,as the department of transportation seems to overlook them. the drivers do not hold cdl liscense and mexico does not have a data base on the drivers.they should have to take a cdl test in the u.s. to prove they are qualified to drive these trucks, they should be able to pass a test on signs and speak english. I for one am not looking forward to them running in the winter time with snow and ice present. you could go to www.ooida.com and check on their site in regards to the mexican drivers.

I'm tired of Mexicans all over the U.S. no matter what occupation they hold (if any)
In fact, I'm tired of all illegal immigrants no matter where they're from.
Our wonderful government has seen to it that these people will have jobs, housing & all other means of survival. All at the exspense of the "American" workers tax dollars.
I'm fed up as well!

It's (in my opinion) one of those things you cannot ever change, and it's a waste of time and effort bellyaching about it.

This agreement allowing these truckers in was signed by the beloved "slick Willie" (who unions supported) believe it or not.

Bill Clinton made its passage a major legislative initiative in 1993. (Wikipedia)
