I live above a restaurant in Chicago & they are constantly blaring their music, having “Parties”, Bean Bag Tournaments, Karaoke, &worst of all… They let their extremely intoxicated patrons use a bull horn to scream stupid stuff & using the “sound” functions - All night I hear the Drunk-White-Girl-Battle-Cry! “WEEE-OOOO! YEAH!”

I have asked them to keep their patrons under control but they never do anything… They will turn the music down for a song or 2 then turn it right back up... They NEVER take the bull horn away!

I have started to call the cops with noise complaints when it gets out of hand & have called more then 6 times in the last 3 months.

I DO want them to keep their drunken patrons calm but I don’t want them shut down!

That would make the land lord VERY moody& I just don’t want to deal with that…

If I don’t call, I can’t sleep.

If I do call, how many times until they can’t renew their business license?

p.s. I can't move until I get a more stable income.

It was a quiet, Higher End, Italian Restaurant when I moved in... This new place took over from the quiet Italian Restaurant.

I have been here for 4 years and they have been here for less then 1 year.

Last night - Sat 10-14-07 - They ended up wth FOUR noise complaints that I know of...

1 from me at 11:00 pm because they let the drunks use the bull-horn,

1 from me at 2:43 am because they were screaming in the parking lot.

1 from my father at 3:00 am when they started to fight in the parking lot.

1 from my upstairs neighbor at 3:00 am because they wouldn't stop screaming and fighting!!

FOUR NOISE COMPLAINTS IN ONE NIGHT!!

I think that my other neighbor might have called around midnight because the drunks started to use the police car sound function on the bull-horn...

So it MIGHT be FIVE NOISE COMPLIANTS in 1 night...

Numerous complaints will cause an investigation, but they have to be cited. The restaurant has to be licensed by the state, and city. Contact the license division, and speak to someone there. There's always the media.

Search for your cities codes. Or call city hall or something and ask them if they have a law about that. You would think that they would have a law about it or at least start fining them big bucks and they would get the hint. I am guessing that the apartment you rent is from a different landlord then the restaurant? If you call the cops and they come out and they tell them to keep it down and they don't call the cops again. Keep calling till they fine them.

They built a restaurant under your apartment?

What's that you say? The restaurant was already there and you decided to live above it?

Sorry, but you really have no legitimate complaint that I can see. Feel free to move to a quieter place as soon as you can.
