Lets say your dream comes true and religion is banned. Okay fine.

Now, what would be the realistic plans you would come up with to 1) address poverty, 2) racial and class inequalities, 3) health care issues, 4) immigration, 5) terrorism, or whatever you think is most important.

Im only asking this because it seems from YA! that the ego atheist have built up for themselves with being so enlightened and better thinkers and much more reasonable should make for some great answers. So go ahead and please solve all our problems. Thanks

What does religion do to address all the issues you raised? Considering the pervasiveness of religion in our culture, and their supposed help of those in need, shouldn't poverty, racial and class inequalities, health care issues, ect be taken care of?

I don't know what I would do personally, but I don't think I could do much worse than religion at addressing these concerns.

Who said that all atheists' dreams were that religion would be banned? And what makes you think those problems or so easy to solve? You don't just push a button and have terrorism or whatever go away. Maybe the atheists (or anyone that uses their brain properly) have an "ego" and think they are better thinkers is because there are so many stupid people asking ridiculous questions. And just so you know your religion, or lack of one, shouldn't dictate the way you deal with any of those topics you listed.

We atheists (at least those of us that aren't rabid Dawkinsites) do not seek the abolition of religion. Rather, we seek freedom of thought. That is compatible with non-atheists believing in god, but not with being forced into a belief system due to the circumstances of birth.

Issues 1-4 can be solved my massively reducing the birth rate. If there are fewer people on earth, they can live sustainable, and economic growth will come about through technological advancement rather than enslaving another generation of the poor.

Issue 5 will go away is you stop believing in it. The actual damage caused by terrorist attacks is negligible compared to, say, fried chicken.
Its goal is terror. If you refuse to be scared, it has failed.

nitro, it seems you have something of a point regarding the quality of atheists hereabouts.

To those of you who cry "But what have the Christians ever done about it?", you aren't helping. That's exactly the kind of argument that loses schoolyard debates.

To those of you who plan radical upheavals to social structure: How on earth do you intend to pay for it?

I suggest everyone here go read o good book on how the philosophical arguments of atheism, religion and economics operate. It might raise the level of discourse here.

Once again, pseudo-christians making crap up. Isn't your imaginary god supposed to have some kind of problem with LYING? But then, we all know the truth is the mortal enemy of fundamentalist nutjobs like you.

I think, once your ilk stops LYING, promoting meaningless divisiveness, and trying to hijack the government to force your beliefs on others, we can work together on finding solutions to the problems we face. But as long as an appallingly large chunk of the electorate mindlessly votes Republican because they've been told "GOP" stands for "God's Own Party", there's no way we'll even be able to have a meaningful discussion of real issues.

Think about this. If, by some miracle, a candidate came along with clear, rational, easily-implemented solutions to all our problems, if that candidate was intelligent, well-spoken, uninfluenced by special interests, and genuinely interested in making this country a better place, but WASN'T A CHRISTIAN, he would have NO HOPE OF BEING ELECTED, no matter how good his policies were. This is the kind of madness that comes from using religion as your primary criterion when voting. This is why the Constitution SPECIFICALLY FORBIDS requiring any religious test as a condition of office.

These issues you're talking about AREN'T religious in nature. Religion is at best irrelevant in finding a solution.

Watching a little too much False Noise Channel aren't we? Atheists want 2 things and 2 things only. First - leave government and church separate. You don't want your money supporting stem cells. I don't want my money requiring peple to learn creationism in schools. Second - leave me alone. If your religion prohibits you from marrying a homosexual, then don't. If you religion doesn't allow abortions, don't get one. I am not a member of your religion and don't want government telling me I can't marry someone because of the bible. I don't want to take over the world and don't want to force you to live by my religious beliefs. I dream of one day where the beliefs of non Christians count for something other than treason in this nation. I swear for a group that insists on a literal reading of the constitution, you conservatives never seem to read the 1st or 9th amendments.

1. I totally have the US constitution completely scrapped and re written to repair the very sad disgusting state the country is. With a nation wide employment re education program and a housing co-op register available to register for government housing assistants for low income earners, disabled and the disadvantage by domestic violence or natural disaster. Also helping all disadvantaged family's to have there children to be fully educated in school and free access to learn a trade to obtain a full training apprenticeship in an employable future position or higher education. A 100% total no guns policy in America to stop these gun related crimes. Also a new work release and rehabilitation program for minor charged prisoners to break the institutional American prison system.

2. Anti discrimination laws placed which it would be no longer tolerated to discriminate towards a persons religion, beliefs, race, color, disability or sexual preference.

3.A workable health care system for all Americans with free hospital and medical treatment to all disadvantaged and low income earners. Also a nation wide sports, exercise and diet program to assist all American people to fight obesity that leads to other medical health problems. A fully revamped US mental health service available for all Americans, to assist mentally challenged persons with employment possibility's and chargeable crime prevention, by anger management and domestic violence prevention, and a free from drug and alcohol and attempted suicide rehabilitation program and 24/7 free call center

4.America needs skilled trades persons who can assist in a national " Work for Welfare Program" to get people working again by building new state government housing and centers learning ,retail, hospitality, child care and other community training programs to assist in obtaining permanent or part time employment and new business opportunities. While reassessing new immigration laws which are very fare for all people applying for US residential status having a full basic knowledge of US culture and history ability to read ,write and speak English and respect US laws.

5.A national TV campaign to advice the American public to get it out of there thick air heads that "There Is No War" on terror or anywhere else the world and bring the US soldiers back home. The American Soldiers are in Iraq as police to bring stability to Iraq while other American Soldiers are only in Afghanistan doing the same thing to police the public .

So much can't be done due to the US constitution this needs to be looked into seriously

It's not my dream that religion become banned. Arrogant of you to assume so. All I want is for religion to be left out of my government and public school system. You have the freedom to worship. Do it in your own homes and churches and stop foisting it upon others who do not prescribe to your religion. Yours is not the only religion in this country. Get over it. Besides, what have you Christians done for health care issues, immigration, terrorism, etc. I hardly think that religion or atheism has anything to do with those issues.

BANNING religion isn't my "dream". Demonstrating to people that their beliefs are illogical and should be abandoned is a reasonable goal, I think.

Anyhow, just had to get that out of the way...

As for the rest of that, I'd leave it to the politicians who REALLY know what they're doing. I'd feel a lot more secure in their decision making abilities if they had all abandoned their religious faiths and were operating solely on logic and the greatest benefit to mankind, not God.

I don't claim to "know everything" or to be able to "solve everything". Acknowledging just one fact of reality, that gods don't exist, doesn't render a person omniscient or omnipotent.

Your right. Let's do one thing and one thing only....Let's simply go to church and pray.

By the way if you are implying that god is the answer to solving those problems; hate to break it to you but those issues have been prayed to him for a long time and he still has not answered.

I don't want to ban religion.

I also can't explain realistic plans for those five issues in a short answer to a question on a message board.
