The recipe that is on the box is the original recipe, and it's very good. I always add extra marshmellows to my krispies to make them really gooey. They always come out very good, and don't last long in my house! I've never heard of any other recipe for them. They aren't hard to make, you just need the cereal, butter, and marshmellows.

Around Christmas this is a good one though I'll be using the other recipes : gather all of the ingredients for a regular batch of treats but also buy or bring oil of peppermint , green food coloring, and some RED-HOTS. mix Peppermint oil,and green food color with the marshmallow add to the Rice Krispies then on wax paper make wreaths apx 2-3in in diameter put on the Red-Hots to look like Holly berries and you'll have a great Christmas treat for the kiddies and you will probably get good reviews from the Big kids too.

my hubby makes the best ones! here is his recipe:

Ingredients
3 tablespoons butter
4 cups mini marshmallows(big mellows dont work as well)
6 cups REAL Rice Krispies(no fake stuff)

Directions
1. Melt real butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Add KELLOGG'S RICE KRISPIES cereal. Stir until well coated.

3. Using buttered spatula, press mixture evenly( over pressing will make them stiff) into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with butter. Cut into 2-inch squares when cool. Best if served the same day.

HELPFUL TIPS:
DONT OVER STIR
DONT OVER PRESS
DONT MAKE IT EXTRA MELLOWY, UNLESS THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT, BUT IN OUR OPINION IT MAKES THEM SOGGY..
TOO MUCH BUTTER CAN ALSO BE QUITE DISPLEASING
YOU CAN ALSO MAKE IT 3 CUPS RICE CRISPIES AND ONE CUP FRUITY PEBBLES FOR EXTRA COLOR, VERY CUTE FOR THE KIDS!!

there are a couple of tricks to rice krispie squares:

1. melt 5 tablespoons of UNSALTED butter in a big pot (i use my pasta pot)

2. melt a bag of jumbo marshmallows on low low heat - it will take longer,,, but they will come out so much better

3. mix in 5 cups of rice krispies

4. i like to add butterscotch chips at this point...but you can leave it plain, or add choc. chips or whatever suits you

5. pour into a grease 9 x13" pan

6. flatten the mixture in the pan, with a spatula that has been sprayed w/ cooking spray

and let them sit to get firm
and cut w/ a knife that has been greased a little

good luck!
