neither, life thats been lived should not be depressing, sitting around moping after a death is definetly not wat the deceast would want as u say a friend im sure a friend wouldnt want u depressed and wasting the precious years of life you have left, celebrate life, and have a time were u can mourn., same for the pet, the pet will be grateful for the love and attention u gave it, and for the happy life it had lived,

I think both would be devastating to someone who considered them a friend. If you loved your pet like you would your brother then I feel it would be the same. A lot of people would put there lives at risk for there pet. It reminds me of something I read in the bible John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Losing a friend. You can't talk to and hang out with a pet, and a pet can't help you if you need advice. Besides, pets are easily replaceable. Friends are not.

Both can be depressing it depends on your relationship with the person or pet. If you know that the person was a christian then you need not be depressed since they are in a better place.

Equally depressing, in different ways. In the case of losing a friend, I would mourn losing an equal whom I dealt with as a fellow adult, capable of disagreeing with me and possibly leaving me; while the level of intellectual engagement is deeper, there is always the possibility of disengagement. In the case of losing a pet, I would mourn losing someone who was dependent on me and who loved me pretty much unconditionally, and whose innocence brought me great joy; there was less intellectual engagement, but a wholehearted emotional engagement.

Person, human life is precious. Hint all dogs don't go to heaven you have to have a soul. Bodies go back to the earth soul's move animals have none sorry all of you PETA people on this site.

would be kinda hard to explain why Fido went to heaven and the cow that your hamburger was made from didn't.

So sorry.

Depression is a repetition of the loss. What you are "thinking" IS the depression. Sadness comes and passes but in the thought patterns of depression, the loss is repeated over and over and over.

I don't see it as much of a competition - my friends don't bite me, my cat does so often. Even if you say that your pet is irreplacable and your friend is irreplacable, I still think the friend is more irreplacable.
