My 8 month old beagle has been sleeping in the kitchen ever since my boyfriend and I got him (2 months now). I have been reading and it says that beagles should sleep in your bedroom. Is this true? He's used to sleeping in the kitchen but should he really be sleeping with us? Of course he would still be sleeping in his cage because he is not housetrained yet. But do you think it would be damaging to change where he sleeps? Thanks!

He is sleeping in a cage because he is still not housetrained. I got him 2 months ago, and as you know beagles can be very stubborn. When we take him outside, he'll pee/poop but will them randomly pee and poop wherever he wants!
As for the bedroom thing, I thought maybe it was a good idea because he is alone while he sleeps and is then alone while we are both at work. I was thinking maybe we leave him in the kitchen alone for too long, so if he was sleeping with us at night he wouldn't feel so lonely. No, he doesn't howl at night. He'll whine for a little bit when we put him to bed, but he stops.

i've never heard anything of the kind. beagles are no different than other dogs when it comes to sleeping arrangments.if he's used to the kitchen, leave him there. it wouldn't be damaging to change where he sleeps but why ruin a good thing?

I have had a beagle for two years now and I have never heard of this thing about letting beagles sleep in the bedroom. I love my beagle a lot, but I never let her into my bedroom. That's off limits. I don't want any dander in there. Beagles can be very stubborn. You have to let them know their place in the pecking order right from the start. If the beagle is fine in the kitchen, let him stay there. Just make sure he's comfortable.

The question is if you are having problems with howling. Beagles are known for howling and so forth, which is why you may read that they should sleep in your room. By putting them in your room you provide companionship, even when not right next to them. Your presense is comforting and may keep your beagle from howling. However, if you aren't having any problems with that, I would say keep him in the kitchen. This is where he is comfortable and familiar with being. Switching may cause some anxiety for a small time, but shouldn't be very difficult or harmful.

You're right, it's perfectly fine for him to sleep on his belly. I talked to my doctor about this when my son was 5 months old and she said as long as the baby can roll over both ways, it's fine. The only thing you might want to do is take the the crib bumpers out of his bed (if he has them).

my pug used to sleep in the kitchen when he is 8 weeks. Soon when he is at 10 weeks... he wants to be in the living room. He manage to escape...for some reason.
Well I guess. I let him be, I told him if he wants to be outside other than kitchen he has to behave as good dog. I guess he understand and listen...
never do bad things around the house.. he pee and poop on his pooch pad.
I guess he is a smart puppy. no need o much training

If your dog does not whine/howl in the middle of the night, then it's perfectly fine to leave him in the kitchen. As long as you remember to keep him warm (or cool depending on the season) and that he has relieved himself prior to turning in for the night.
If you bathe/clean your dog on a regular and consistent basis, you don't have any odor problems to worry about.

As long as he doesn't take over your bf's spot in the bed and make him sleep in his dog's house, that's ok! LOL. Now... seriously, let your dog choose what's the best place he wishes to sleep. My 3 dogs sleep in the bedroom sometimes, some days they like to sleep in the kitchen, or in the living room. I leave it up to them, as long as they don't make a mess and I see it when I get up! :-)

I think he should be sleeping outside . He is old enough . I really don't understand the cage thing I'm sure he would be happier outside not in a cage.

Your dog should not sleep in your bedroom because he will never break the habit. Buy him a comfy dog bed when he is house trained & keep it in the same spot. If you keep moving him he will get confused.

In a cage? wow, meh probably should be in your room. Not because of the breed, but because hes in a cage, better not to be alone Id guess.
