It isn't really that difficult to figure out. They broke the law, the punishment is deportation therefore you deport them. Even if it took tens of billions of dollars, it could still happen because a) the USA is the richest country in the world, and tens of billions is about how much one month of the Iraq war costs.

Wow, most of the answers so far have been pretty bad. I should "put myself in their shoes?" Okay so I'm a poor Mexican wanting to come to the U.S.A. I would go to the consulate and apply for a green card not go across the border illegally. Also most answers are not directly answering the question. Please do.

What if every law were ignored because people said "there's just too many of them"...
There are too many speeders so let's don't bother them.
There are too many rapists and murderers so let's don't put them in jail.
There are too many thieves, but hey! they just want a better life so leave them alone.
Besides, it would cost too much to imprison criminals or write out tickets.
You know, we could start arresting people for crimes, but people would just continue to commit crimes, so what's the point.... yada yada yada
SAME OLD EXCUSES...
Yes, of course, ALL ILLEGALS should be deported. I'd rather pay taxes on deporting them than for supporting them.

As far as I know, even the pilgrims were illegal aliens. They came to the US and took the land from the indians by killing them. Then these pilgrims said the US was their country but did the indians agree with that?? Probably not.
Then these same people started bringing Africans to the US. Why didn't they say anything about illegal immigration back then?
Is it because they thought Africans would not take jobs away from them and now they fear Mexicans will take away all jobs that Americans can't do or can't do well which are probably the majority of jobs?
Americans are really ignorant about many issues. They think it's Mexicans invading while the truth is that it's the US destroying the economies of all those countries where immigrants come from.
Of oourse, they don't teach you that at school because school in the US only teaches what's necessary to protect the political and economic interests of the USA. You usually only learn the truth until you venture out the USA but few Americans do.
Want a civilized USA? Start reading books, travel to third-world countries, speak to people in those countries, watch TV from other countries and stop watching American TV.

You are right that deporting would cost tens of billions of dollars at the very least. And the government is already in deep debt as it is. They simply can't afford to deport millions of people, not wthout making budget cuts in other departments or dramatically raising taxes. Amnesty would be more economical because it would get all the illegal immigrants paying taxes. I think a more economical solution would be to give illegal immigrants a choice between deportation or amnesty and a fine, community service or a short jail sentence for immigrating illegally. That way it would be easy for anyone to immigrate without waiting for years, but most of the immigrants would end up being legal eventually, but there would be an incentive to immigrate legally in the first place. Plus the government wouldn't waste billions of dollars deportigng illegal immigrants, and they'd get more revenue when illegal immigrants start paying taxes.
Also companies that employ illegal immigrants should be severely fined, if the government would go after these companies, it would be more effective than all the fences and deportation buses in the world. Companies that hire illegal aliens are pure evil, they usually threaten to report their employees for being illegal unless they accept long hours, no benefits and only a fraction of the legal minimum wage.

in my opinion- there are 2 paths. a million. end all authorities welfare classes and value controls. This includes value helps and company welfare classes, the minimum salary and man or woman welfare classes and aspects them amnesty. 2. Amend the structure to end birthright citizenship and start up deporting human beings. i might want to really see the first. I do trust with out the minimum salary a minimum of get top of entry to point pay will fall. If the going cost for cutting-edge jobs falls- expenses and unemployment will fall too.

Because it would cut into the Real Estate (new construction) business. Construction workers (esp in the Southwest) would actually have to pay people a proper wage. Then there wouldn't be massive profits to pay for the campaigns on both sides! (opensecrets.org)
Same goes for many other jobs that can't simply be outsourced to Mexico legally. (like cleaning yuppie houses)
Personally I think it would be nice if they were paying taxes...if the only law they broke was coming here.
And America is NOT the richest country in the world. We are number 6
http://www.aneki.com/richest.html
However we are home to some of the richest people and corporations in the world, because we let them get away with crap like this.

Because all the bleeding heart liberals out there cry "they are eating dirt in their own country, they are poor" No matter they have taken most of the construction and gardening jobs away from Americans. It is very strange how they come here are start up gardening businesses and buy houses without money? My street is full of them and quite a few are illegal.

Think about that one. If we spend a billion deporting immigrants and another billion on the war that leaves us with two billion dollars down the drain. And the US is having serious spending issues to begin with, lets not make it worse shall we?

Many are deported. Two months later they're back again. We need to get serious about border security first.

Maybe because the rich need them to be their housekeepers, gardeners, etc. Also, it could be attributed to the fact that corporations and businesses like to higher them to reduce their overhead expenses. What we need to do is to get our government to address the problem with the countries they are all coming from.
Additionally, maybe the governments of the countries they are all coming from could give them all a better way of life, by improving the conditions and wages in their homelands. Have you seen or heard of the conditions in which most of the people coming over here have lived in within their countries? Believe me, poverty is an understatement with respect to how many of them were living prior to coming here.
Most of the one's that I have interacted with here in California are hard working people; most are working 2-4 jobs just to make ends meet, and it's still better than what they had back home. And, they don't complain about having to work all of those jobs, and/or for the most part, the long hours on a daily basis. They are just trying to give themselves and their families a better life.
Also, don't you think that life is too short to be worrying about what others are trying to do in order to better themselves? Put yourself in their shoes and I'm sure that you would see things more clearly and have a better understanding about why they come here. It's not just Mexicans either. There are plenty of illegal citizens that come from further south than Mexico (i.e. El Salvador, Guatemala, etc.) And what about the illegal white citizens that are here from Canada and Europe? Or, is your primary focus only centralized on the Hispanic illegal aliens?
As for the war? It's a war that we never should've gotten involved in to begin with. I recall the reason why we got involved in Afghanistan, because that is where the terrorists camps were located and Osama Bin-Laden. But why did we go into Iraq? That war has cost us not only $$$, but plenty of brave lives and ruined many others to boot. We can't even afford to treat the veterans who come back alive properly. We don't fund the VA enough and for the most part, the majority of the country remains apathetic to the war unless they are directly affected by it...such as a relative serving in the armed forces.
You should try and focus at being more pro-active by finding ways to enrich the lives of others who are less fortunate than you. Find a solution to help fight poverty in your own city or town. Get involved with feeding the poor. Find a purpose for your own life instead of deflecting and trying to blame illegals because your life is miserable. If it's not that miserable, then why are you complaining?
Take care of yourself, and may the Lord reveal Himself to you one day and show you what His plans for your life are. God bless.
