are beagles smart? do they learn very easy? are they eager to please? i have read that they are independent and stubborn. i also read that they are noisy. is all this true? i was going to give a pair of beagles a home, but then i read that and changed my mind. i dont know about beagles much, but i have an 8 month old black and tan coonhound, and he is very smart, willing to please, and extremely obedient for only being a pup.

my pup also is not very noisy at all! he will occasionally bay at the coyotes in the distence, or alert me to someone on the property.

Beagles are great dogs. They are smart dogs. I did not have to train my pup as I have a dog door and an older dog, a Chi/Terrier mix, that trained the Beagle for me.
Mine is not stubborn, he will do anything for food. You have to watch how much you feed them as the can get fat over night, they are chow hounds.
Mine is the least noisy of my four dogs. The Chi/Terrier is the first one to go off at any noise and he barks constantly. The next are the two Pits. The last is the Beagle and only if he thinks it is needed. He will sometimes just ignore the other three. But when he gets into it, well, you you know the hound bay.

Beagles are good dogs but they're not an anyone and everyone breed . If you live in an apartment or condo , then a beagle would not be considerable since this breed does tend to howl and bay when left alone .This baying or howling may seem pleasant for hunting or treeing a coon , but is annoying to neighbors and family members . Basically there is the good side and the bad side of the Beagle . They kind of do have an attitude problem for say " whats in it for me ? " attitude . They can be stubborn and like to listen to there own noise . This breed is a good breed of dog , but can be alittle noisy at sometimes .

i have a beagle and she's twelve years old and she is the complete opposite of everything that you read said. She is very obedient and learned very quickly. She listens well and is very eager to please. She loves to run and fetch, and she loves being around people almost all of the time and she isn't stubborn at all actually she is very well mannered. And some beagles can be loud but that is mainly when the dog is trained to be a hunting dog. They are wonderful dogs and very compassionate so i would suggest that you give those two beagles a chance...it'll be well worth it

No, beagles are great dogs, I have one. They really like people and can't stand being by themselves for a long period of time. Beagle love people, they are also great around kids. They are really smart. You could teach them something one day and the next day they would understand everything you taught them. They learn very easily, they will surprise you by what they know.
My beagle is very obedient, if she did something wrong, we would tell her and she wouldn't do it anymore. She always wants to impress because she knows she will be rewarded. The only thing bad is that they love to bark and dig holes.

My beagle is stubborn and independent. She does make a lot of noise. But There is something mentally wrong with my beagles brain. It's funny to watch but annoying at night. I don't really suggest getting a beagle.

Beagles are great!! but do be aware with what is considered to be 'hunting dog' because more than one dog of hound nature will be making a hunting pack and will share the 'hunting' instinct, so be sure to give them that sense of search in playtime and make sure your fence is sturdy if your coonhound already bays at things he may try to go on a 'hunt' with friends.

Yes, what you have heard about beagles is true- but I thought that was a generalization of most hound breeds- if you already have a hound, you may be plenty happy with beagles. Why not foster for a beagle group to try it out?

I have a Beagle names Bella and she is smart, loving, and everything you could dream of in a best friend. She is not noisy, though she is a little whinny. She is kinda picky too, but I think I've spoiled her.
