Yuo should be more specific, it's hard to summarize but I'm going to do my best to give you full details of what it's like living here. There are good and bad things like everywhere. It only depends on what you are able to tolerate or not. I don't know if you are american or not, but if you are it might take you a while to get used to our lifestyle. italians may be nice people but they're also pretty individualistic, there is not the sense of community I could find in the USA. economy is not so strong so it's hard to make ends meet for a lot of families. we have a good health care system that provides you with all that you need but it's also very slow. it may take months to get an appointment and a lot of people have to turn to private hospitals to get it sooner. it means that you have to pay and it's usually expensive. illegal immigration is a serious problem here and politics are not doing much to keep it under control. lots of them become criminals taking also advantage of the fact that the justice system doesn't work at all. people too often don't pay for the crime they committed. work is not as flexible as it is in the USA. the uducation system is not as good as the one you have there (taking for granted that you are american) because we don't valorize experience. to us is more important to study a lot, and a lot of stupid and useless things, than to gain first hand experience . unlike the USA, we start a family in our late twenties when we are lucky cause we graduate later than you do. then we have to find a job which is not always that easy. usually to get a job is more important to know the right person than to be really able to do that job. I'm sorry if I might sound a bit drastic. like dario, I'd love to live in the USA But I'm also sure that grass is always greener on the other side so, if you asked that as you're thinking of moving here, I advise you to come and live here for a while. that way you'll have your own idea of what it means staying here. I have friends from america living here who love this country.
good luck.

Hi Rachael,
The reason you're not getting a lot of answers is because your question is to vague. You have to be more specific. There are too many places in Italy that are so different..........Look at it this way.
What's like life in the US?....Are you talking cities?, rural areas, the north, the south. Or the ocean or the heartland. New York or Los Angeles?.......
The cities are very upscale and the country is very peasantish. Your question can't be answered the way it was asked.
An expert wouldn't want to take the time to answer your vague question.
It would take forever......Be more specific!
Good Luck!

The Italian people are nice and happy, and in Italy there are a lot of beautiful places: mountains in the north, amazing cities like Florence, Rome and Naples! Beautiful beaches in Sardinia and Sicily, and (the most important thing :)) In Italy food is great! Wines, pasta, tipic cakes and the famous Pizza! Maybe I say it becouse I'm Italian... so go to Italy. You'll love it to! Bye and excuse me for my English!!

I'm italian, from turin...
well, here the life is quite good, we must say that firstly, there is a really good weather.. ehehe...
well, then there are a lot of nice things, as cities, culture, history exc exc..
nice places, i was in florence yesterday and is a a really nice place...
but well, there is even other bad things..
politics as first... they earn about as the french-german-belgium politics all together... it realy sucks, and most of them just think to themself.. infact, here a lot of people say that if they're of left or right side, they're always bad..
then there is the problems of immigrations.. that a bad problem, because most of them dont have the permit to live here, and cause of that they dont find any job and so, they start to steal, sell drugs, prostitutions exc exc, which is one of the most problem here..
i'm italian, but i'd like to live in the usa.. could we exchange life place each other?? =p
ciao!

well i can just say what my life's like here...
i'm 18 and live in milan, i'm attending the last year of high school (study languages).
wake up in the morning and don't wanna go to school... but i have to from monday to saturday... i know when i am there, anything is not that bad!
messy, crazy and funny people are in my school :P that means: laughing all the time!
we spend our time planning what to do on saturday afternoon and night. milan has got a really exciting night life! we love it for this! we know how to have fun!
and also we love it for shopping...
we're always busy... we have to do a lotta homework every day for the day after and it's so stressing!
plus cooking and houseworking, helping our families!
but it's ok... we hold on, smiling!
when i think of my future i just don't see something special... i'm going to university in one year, but i'm sure i won't find a good job after!... it's hard to find it...
i just think of me & my boyfriend living together... and, of course, planning what to do on saturday night!
