I just got prescribed citalopram (40mg) and usually about two nights a week I go out and get wasted. I know they say you shouldn't drink while taking this, but I look forward to hitting the bars all week long. Even if I don't drink a lot, I'd like to be able to have at least six or seven beers and a couple of shots. I was talking to some guy at a party one time who said he was on zoloft and whenever he knew he was going out for a big night of drinking he just didn't take his meds that day. So I'm thinking that's what I'll try. I've gone without this stuff for a while now so if I miss a day or two I don't think it'll be a problem, but I just wanted to see what you guys think would be the best idea.

I know what you mean because i am takeing a simular anti depressant. Mixing alcohol will just intensafie the Citalopram and could cause a heart problem plu alot of outher things to go wrong. If i am going to drink i just do not take the anti depressant and all goes well.
The Doctor would just say no drinking at all and that would be best but if one wants to drink just dont take the pills that day.

Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Citalopram. I would not drink while taking this med...it could cause complications. It also is a class of med that you need to take every day...it won't do its job without taking it everyday.
