I am a Catholic--some of my questions are satirical and may seem to some like I am an atheist if they don't catch the satire

I think it is a matter of humbling yourself, kind of asking Jesus to intervene in a sense, knowing He is God's son, that God finds favor in Him, and praying to God directly, but when saying "in Jesus' name I pray" telling God that you believe in His son. Instead of boldly walking up and saying 'hey' you are saying 'Jesus told me it would be okay to talk to you'. Sorry, best I can break it down.

just the name of Jesus carries authority in the life of Christians.
But Jesus told his disciples about praying to God.
Since Jesus is the Mediator between God and man, we are also shown to pray with the Spirit.
So, we pray in the name of Jesus by the Spirit to God.

Jesus is who has made it possible for us to return to God (Father in Heaven). By saying "in Jesus' name" we are asking Jesus to intercede on our behalf. We need his help to get to God.

Because the Bible says God will grant our prayers (as long as we have a clean heart) when we ask of it in his son's name, Jesus.
